Tao at Bungalow. Aqula Hoppy Weizenbock 7.5% IBU 38 An opaque light Amber gold with a dense light beige head of foam. Yeasty wine like weizenbock character and tangy citrus candy hop notes. Thinner bodied than expected- the taste is spicy Weizen, citrus hops, candies and molasses soaked white bread. An interesting take on the style...

Tap at Molto. Clear orange-golden color with a low, fine head. Grassy, citrus nose, crisp malt. Crisp, light, hoppy flavor, some minerals and grapefruit. Rice lightens it up. Strong bitterness. Nice for size.

On tap at Bungalow. Aqula & North Island Short Summer Session IBA 3.8% 70 IBU I heard it is probably coriander black as a base then the malts are tones down and the hops ramped up. A cola looking pour with ruby highlights. Awesome aroma of hops, smoke and chocolate. A fairly full body for a sub 4% beer, smooth mouthfeel and a bright refreshing dry finish. The taste is smokey cooking chocolate and bright citrus zest. A really fun summer beer that isn’t what you’d expect but delivers refreshment and a lighthearted feeling. Check it out if you see it on tap.

Tap at Sapporo Craft Beer Forest 2016. Aged in the barrel for a year. With aging, this turned out to be a very interesting beer. Hazy bright blond color with lace. Spicy, hoppy nose, very dry. Lemon, crackery pale malt, and something that seems bretty to me. Dry, hoppy, light flavor. Great citrus, crackers, brett or some kind of farmhouse-like funk. Not sour or lactic, but dry and lightly funky. Crisp and clean. Very nice, whether it was on purpose or not.

Tap at Sapporo Craft Beer Forest. Nice chocolate nose. roasty, with earthy hops. Light and tasty. Good flavor for the abv, though it could use more citrus hops.

This should be called Aqula Akita Ginjo (named for the sake). On tap at Watering Hole. Hazy gold with almost no head. Belgian saison yeast like nose with some koji and sake notes. Soft carbonation with a sweet but funky nuance to it...like fermented rice. Clean and easy to drink. Wish there was a bit more carbonation though, still a nice original effort from Aqula. --- Beer merged from original tick of Akita Ginjo Beer on 18 Apr 2016 at 19:22 - Score: 7. Original review text: Nice sake and saison yeast nose. Slightly sweet on the palate with nice koji notes. Clean and easy to drink. Soft carbonation. Tasty.

Tap at Watering Hole. Amber color with a finger of white foam that lingers. 7 Up, lemon and lime in the nose. Boozy on the palate. Average carbonation with a slightly heavy body. Feels too boozy for the abv. Sweet and kind of citrusy. Burned toffee bitterness on the finish. Kind of a mess really. --- Beer merged from original tick of Icy Wind 2016 Tongue Oil on 18 Apr 2016 at 19:13 - Score: 5. Original review text: 7 up, lemon, lime, boozy. Oily on the palate. Roasted toffee. A mess really.
