Cask. Quite much pitch black colour with small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some liquorice, mild coffee and chocolaty notes as well. Flavour is quite much the same with also some wooden semidry bitterness in the finish.

Cask @ GBBF 2009. Pours a golden color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty and hoppy aroma. Fruity malty hoppy flavor with some hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty hoppy finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Copper golden color, small white head. Honeyish flowery hoppy aroma. Watery palate. Caramelly, hard malty front. Finishing more fruity. Long bitter aftertaste with hints of nuts. Simple, very standard real ale.

Bottle bought at Humpers, Bristol. Very dark brown in colour, with a tight tan head. Dark chocolate and coffee aroma. Flavour of prunes, milk chocolate and a touch of caramel. Finish was dry, although some sweetness lingered on the aftertaste. Very good.

Bottle from Corks, Bristol. Deep gold with a slight white head. Sweet malt aroma, with some orange fruit and leafy hops. Flavours of biscuit malts, some citrus hops and a decent bitter finish. Good.

Bottle picked up from the Dodgy Deli’, Cowley Rd, Oxford 17-04-09 consumed same day Well as the name suggests this does indeed pour as ’black as yer at’ the head which i barely had time to notice was beige but was quickly consumed by this liquid black hole. There were traces of wood smoke, coffee and roasted malts on the nose. Taste is nicely woody, some burnt flavours, good dark malts, bitter chocolate and nice roasted malts, touch dry towards the end and good bitterness, it’s bloody lovely. This really is a very decent British stout up there with the likes of Wagtail Black Shuck in my opinion, great stuff. A7 A4 F8 P4 OV15 3.8

Cask at Pullman Bar, Helsinki, on 2008-11-22. Golden and clear. Small white head. Grass and yeas in nose. Medium bodied, quite fresh and still dry palate with little carbonation. Grass, fruitiness, bitterness, lightly malts, seawater and hint of black pepper in taste. Bitter anf fruity aftertaste.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. Vibrant golden colour with a medium white head. Looked the part. Sweeisht aroma with some hop and honey notes. Dry hop flavour with muted citrus tones and no real depth. Clean and drinkable, but lacking any real oomph. Next !

Cask (handpump) @ Great British Beer Festival, GBBF 2008, Earls Court, London, England SW5.Clear medium yellow orange color with a small to average, fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, roasted, light to moderate hoppy, grass. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is flat. (070808)

Cask (The Raven,Bath) - Gold/amber in colour. Hoppy and citric aroma with grapefruit and a twist of lemon. Fairly hoppy taste with a pleasant grapefruit and peaches in syrup finish.
