Bottle. Deep copper with an inch of cream head that’s never less than a coat. Aroma of rich toffee, dried fruit, smoke, bread, pepper. And so it tastes. Sweetness gives way hastily to firm peppery bitterness. Lacks a bit of bottom end, but a good and original beer.

Pours dark brown with a small head.Nose shows soft peat, nutty notes, golden syrup, toasty malt and spices.Equally malty flavours but with more breads and toasty malt alongside a bit of gentle booze. Slightly metallic.Body feels a bit watery.

Bottle. Amber with a huge white head. Fresh, lively floral and herbal aroma (don’t think I’d have picked juniper if it weren’t on the label) with honeydew melon and a little peach. Light-bodied, getting on to watery. A little caramel sweetness, lots of botanical notes, dry with pepper and juniper at the end. Refreshing. Would hit the spot well on a humid Byron evening.

Bottle from The Ale House, Chelmsford, Essex. Quite powerful but certainly not unpleasant floral/citrus aroma. Easy drinking and enjoyable.

Pours dark amber with a large, lasting head.Nose shows some nutty and toasty malt along with light spicy herbal notes from the juniper. A little faint.Similar spicy characters show as flavours along with nutty notes. Extremely quaffable. Gets a bit sweet later though.

GBBF. Last beer of a long day and somewhat truncated notes. Guess this must have been from a bottle. Light crisp beer with a semi dry palate. Light hops with a little mango. Decent. 3.5

Hazy gold beer, little white head. Palate is crisp and semi dry. Minerals. Nice light tropical fruit hops - peach. apricot and mango in equal proportions. Light dry finish. A light and refreshing beer without ever being wimpy. Great fresh fruits.

What I really wanted tonight was an IPA, but for some reason I reached for this in the fridge, so I’m probably holding its weaknesses against it more than I otherwise would. There’s plenty of malt on the nose with the slightest hint of something floral. On the tongue it’s all caramel and chocolate with a sort of metallic finish. There’s a reasonable body to this beer, so it’s certainly pleasant but it’s by no means complex.

Pours dark brown with ruby tints and a small head.Nose shows bready, toasty and nutty malt. Quite interesting though.Flavours are more approaching roasted malt, with some soft toasty notes underneath. Also some spicy hops.Carbonation is too hot.A big change of last year.
