Description
Independently-owned craft brewery providing North Carolina with quality beers since 1994.
Beginning in 1994 with a 7 barrel converted dairy system, we set and accomplished the goal of providing unique traditional ales & lagers available through OHB. Quickly we outgrew that system.
In 1997, we began the renovation of an 1880 Historic Landmark building, which now houses our brewing facilities, a 25-barrel Price Schonstrom brew house.

Bottle, 0.65l, shared with Sima, David, Pier & nonni. Aroma of caramel, nuts, dark fruit and resinous hops. Pours dark brown color with thin creamy light brown head and fair lacing. Taste starts with moderate sweet toasted malt, caramel and nuts, following is hoppy, fruity, woody and piney with smooth mouthfeel and average bitter finish. Full body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Walk of life…

01/07/20 Bottle from the pretty much defunct any day now, Bruisin' Ales. Bottled: 9/13/17. Ommegang anniversary glass. Brown, fluffy head, red tinge on a not quite black body. Lightly charred sugar, soft meat smoke, heavy dark bread, brown booze, stone. Tastes is old hops, brown sugar, charred coffee bitterness, burnt cookies, light whiskey, ashy finish. Low carbonation, thick but not oppressive. Alcohol is on par. Tis okay.

12oz bottle from Appalachian. Mojito glass @home. Sharp, super sweet, raisin-y, pineapple upside-down cake, acidic wine nose. Carmel cake, aged herbal hops, raisin. Sweet with medium high acid. Subtle oxidation on the very tail. Really weak barrel. It's only really in the nose. Frothy & surprising oxidation, hot enough. A touch too sweet. Okay.

Bottle at home shared with Laura. Opaque black color, small to average sized brown colored head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is malts, heavy coffee, sweetish bourbon vanilla, espresso. Flavor is malts, roasted malts, again espresso, bourbon boozyness, not so much sweetness and vanilla. A little bit thinner than I expected, decent body, more firm carbonation than I expected. Nice one.

Imponerende bra start, men med litt varme utvikler den seg i mer kompleks og utfordrende retning. Mye tre og vinøst med et visst bourbon-preg.
