Keg at Brewdog Reading. Brown-black with a negligible beige head. Chocolate aroma; the flavours are pretty muted but include chocolate, liquorice and wood. Very thin, especially given the strength. Disappointing.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Craft Beer Rising 2018, London. Pours clear, rich honey-gold with a stable, frothy white head. Soft pine in the aroma, some orange peel, pale grains. Light sweet flavour with a little husky bitterness, pine needles, more citrus peel, grass. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Pretty good balance in the finish, some assertive grassy bitterness, more rindy notes and crispy grains. A little grass in the aftertaste. Overall, a decent APA, albeit a touch aggressive.

Cask at the Alehouse, Reading. A glossy black pour with a ruby gleam and a ring of translucent head; complex aroma with some oak, vanilla, oats and flora; a smooth and thick lactic body, with lots of well toasted grains; then a dry, nutty and gently bitter finish with well hidden alcohol. Really good, but lacking warmth and chocolate.

Cask at the Ale House, Reading. A dark amber pour with a loose white head; aroma of toast and hedgerow fruit; bittersweet in the mouth with a touch of vintage marmalade, then a piney bitterness leading to a long dry bitter fruity finish. A really good APA.

Bottle shared in Bristol - picked up at CBR. Pours clear orange-gold Erika foamy? White head. The nose holds bready malts, ripe or as. Medium sweet flavour with some grass and pine, more bread, melon, bread. Medium bodied, oily, with fine carbonation. Resinous finish, lightly warming, with lightly toasted grains, orange peel. So so overall.

Dan's Stag. Travelodge Bristol, room tasting. Hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Slightly grainy malts. Modest spice. Ripe citrus and.citrus peel. Light spicy finish. Ripe and lacking any brightness. But okay.

Bottle at LKS Sex Pad. It pours clear deep cool - brown with a small white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, juicy, orange, marmalade and tangy action. The taste is dry, bitter, oily, orange marmalade, tangerine, pithy, zesty, resin and some alcohol heat with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Fair enough.

Keg at CBR. Pours clear brown with a bubbly, khaki head. The nose has some vague dark fruits, whispers of chocolate, brown bread. Medium sweet flavour with smooth chocolate character, mellow roast, more brown bread, a hint of earthy bitterness, toasted caramel. Medium bodied, oily and lightly chewy, with soft carbonation. Decent conclusion, some warmth, creamy chocolate, nips of vanilla. Enjoyable.
