Description
Initiated by 3 young graduates, the Ninkasi was born from a simple idea: to implant the concept of American micro-breweries in France. This project was completed in 1997 and takes place in Lyon, on the Gerland site. In 2012, the factory moved 50km from Lyon, to Tarare more precisely (1 avenue Edouard Herriot). The new playground for our brewers has a capacity of 5,000 liters per brew (i.e. 23,000 HL / year). In 2023, Ninkasi moved to its new brewery, still in Tarare.
Note: The original Gerland location closed for works until 2027.

330ml bottle as Ninkasi 'Bottle of Smoke'. Same beer re-badged I think. Pours a hazed reddish amber, medium off-white head. Aroma has light smoke, soft sweet malts. Taste is malty, herbal with good wine integration and a gentle puff of smoke on the finish. Moderate sweet yeast. Interesting, different.

Bottle from Beery Christmas advent calendar. Pours nice deep amber, some beige foam but carbonation is not that harsh, more creamy and soft, Nose has some caramel, gentle smoke, light whisky and alcohol soaked sweet dried fruits. Tastes sweet, caramel mixed with some smoke, creamy, light bitterness. Smooth drinking overall, sweet but not cloying, some extra bitterness is providing some counterweight. Decent beer, not overly exciting but well made.

First bottle from beery Christmas 2017 (Saveur Bière). Pours a rather clear amber-caramel, little head. Smoky sweet, caramel aroma. Fizzy mouthfeel, medium body. Flavour is similar, sweet, caramel, very smokey, bacon, whisky notes. Not too bad, a bit to one-dimensional caramel-smoke.
