Cask (Wenlock Arms, London) - Dark brown with red tinges. Malty and slightly roasted aroma with hints of dried fruit. Roasted, grainy and malty taste with hints of caramel followed by a malty and fruity finish.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Pours pale amber with a thin white head. Smell and initial taste of straw with floral hints, developing into the usual Fuggles farmyard. Very bitter. Lemon comes through in the finish. Rather thin, and not enough sweet malt to balance out the harsh bitterness. Lacks balance, and not up to Rebellion’s normal standard, but still OK.

Cask at the Three Horseshoes, Marlow Bottom. Ruby brown with a dense beige head; lots of sweet fruity malts, smooth and full-bodied, with a pleasantly hoppy finish. Good.

Cask at Three Horsehoes, Marlow, Bucks. This place is effectively the brewery tap for Rebellion. Pale gold pour with a medium head. Floral, hoppy aroma. Tastes quite refreshing, hoppy, citrus fruit, crisp. A decent enough spring ale, a little more complexity would have been welcome.

[Cask at the Bootleggers, High Wycombe] I’m always glad to try a new Rebellion, as whilst not outstanding, it’s rare that they turn out anything bad either - their output is pretty consistant. This one pours amber with a large white head. It has the full, fruity malt flavours backed up with citrus hints that seem to characterise so many Rebellion monthly specials (I’m not sure they really vary the recipe too much...). Like almost all Rebellion beers, it’s tasty, easy to drink and goes down a treat, but once again there’s nothing to make it stand out in my memory.

Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms. Gold, very thin white head. It’s ok, like many Rebellion beers, it’s solid, decent if not ovelry exciting. Bit sweaty sox on aorma and in the hops. OK.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Amber with a dense cream head; grapefruit aroma; sharp bitter grapefruit flavour, becoming slightly sweeter. Tart and fruity. Excellent.

[330ml bottle from Waitrose, Marlow at 5% ABV] Given the smaller bottle size and higher ABV than previous reviews, I wonder if this is a new recipe - I will try to find out. Pours a muddy pale peachy-brown with a negligible head and slight to moderate carbonation. Cloves and ginger in the aroma, and cloves continue into the flavour. It’s pretty heavy on the spices in fact, with plenty of black pepper too. There’s obvious wheat chaff, along with some unusual woodiness - exotic tree barks and furniture polish maybe. A lemon lurks in the background, and a banana tries to catch your attention as the last few drops slither down your throat. It’s an atypical Belgian white; it’s far more complex and interesting than your Hooegaarden clones, but as a result it’s less refreshing. I liked it though.
