Description
We are one of many craft brewers of British Ales to be found in Nottinghamshire and indeed, across the country. Our aim is to help continue the growth of Real Ale by providing a range of good quality, distinctive Real Ales.

In May 2014 we opened our brewery tap, the Old Volunteer in Carlton Square, Nottingham. The pub has nine real ales on hand pull, four of which are Flipside brewery beers with five regularly changing guest beers. We are proud to be both CaskMarque and LocAle accredited and take great pride in the quality of our beers. The Old Volunteer also offers a range of craft keg beers, bottled Belgian beers and over 40 whiskies from around the globe (but mainly Scotland). Complementing a small but excellent food menu, great decor and an excellent, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, a visit to the Old Volunteer is not to be missed.

After a lot of thought about a name for a brewery we came up with Flipside, a reference to the coin collecting hobby of our head brewer. This also provides the theme for the names of the beers which are loosely based around coins and currency, apart from when we can’t resist using the word "flipping"!

Gravicask, shared with Finn at the 24th Carmarthen Beer Festival. Pearl white, bubbly head, cloudy range body, dotted spots on the glass. Vague smell of biscuit and mid-sweet malts. Malt-fruity flavours of oily hops, bread, and mid-sweet malts. More sweet than bitter towards the ending. So and so. (04.10.2018).

Cask half-pint, hand-pulled at the 44th Telford Beer & Drinks Festival at The Crown Inn, Oakengates on 5th May 2018. Golden body, weak head of white bubbles/foam. Mild citrus leanings, but fairly bland and uninteresting (it was beer number 4 of the 15 my wife and I shared at the fest), just not enough going on really. Scored objectively and kindly.

Hand-pulled half-pint on 2nd May 2018, at The Crown Inn, Oakengates, Shropshire. Nice cream coloured head to this dark brown beer. I thought I detected Rye in both the nose and taste in this semi-sweet Mild. Light chocolate notes also within the aroma and flavour, nice.
