Established in 2010
In May 2014 we opened our brewery tap, the Old Volunteer in Carlton Square, Nottingham. The pub has nine real ales on hand pull, four of which are Flipside brewery beers with five regularly changing guest beers. We are proud to be both CaskMarque and LocAle accredited and take great pride in the quality of our beers. The Old Volunteer also offers a range of craft keg beers, bottled Belgian beers and over 40 whiskies from around the globe (but mainly Scotland). Complementing a small but excellent food menu, great decor and an excellent, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, a visit to the Old Volunteer is not to be missed.
After a lot of thought about a name for a brewery we came up with Flipside, a reference to the coin collecting hobby of our head brewer. This also provides the theme for the names of the beers which are loosely based around coins and currency, apart from when we can’t resist using the word "flipping"!

Cask at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours clear gold with a spotty white head. The aroma has notes of wet hay and grainy pale malts. Light sweet flavor woth rotting lemon, astringent hay, husky bitter grains, pale bread. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Musty and moist to finish, with mildew-caked hay, more old lemon, pale malt sugars. Very little to like here.

On cask at Cloisters. Appearance - golden with a nice head. Nose - tangy marmalade. Taste - more oranges and quite sweet again. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a finish that is unfortunately too sweet. Overall - good ipa but too sweet only the end.

Fra cask på Hand and Heart, Nottingham 26 Jan 14. Gylden. Litt uklar. Lavt filmskum. Ikke mye aroma. Hint av stikkelsbær. Smaken er bær & tørket frukt. Avslutter tørt. Litt anonym. Puben var veldig bra med mye lokalt og hadde en populær restaurant. God local feeling.
