Bright clear darkish gold beer, good darkish cream colour head. Palate is airy and mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light palate, airy, decent fine minerally carbonation. Fluffy malts, a light sweetness. A mild twiggy bitterness underpins good crisp pine with ripe and juicy citrus on the back end, including some citric peel bitterness. Light finish. Nice. Very very English traditional but bright and breezey and tres drinkable. Could session this. Nicely balanced. A real winner from this oft conservative brewery.

Bottle from Suffolk Food Hall, nr Ipswich. Aroma is Ovaltine - roasty malty chocolate. Cola brown. Opaque. Foamy beige head. Slightly muted flavour wise: initial sour berries and creamy chocolate and coffee. But not particularly showy. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long astringent finish. Decent. Enjoyable. But feels underpowered like when I was trying to get my old Ford Escort up to speed going up onto the Hogs Back. Still a decent score.

18/12/2021. Bottle from Hop Beer Shop, Chelmsford. Christmas countdown beer 9. Pours clear pale gold with a long lasting frothy white head. Aroma is fruit, malt, citrus, straw, touch herbal. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, slightly creamy, soft carbonation. Nicely done.

500ml bottle bought at Hop Beer Shop. Shared with Finn on a train from Colchester to Liverpool Street. A beige, bubbly head over a jet black body with a deep ruby shade. Dotted spots on the glass. Nicely roasted dark chocolate malts on the nose. Dark malty flavoured taste profile of chocolate, nuts, and earth. Smoothly roasted ending. Likable Yuletide feel. (Train session, 23.11.2021).

One-third pint cask at Three Wise Monkeys, shared with Finn. Bubbles on the surface of clear golden body, fair lacing. Moderate aromas of grassy hops and pale malts. Subdued taste profile of grass, herbs, and pale malts. Rounded endnotes of ripe fruits and grain. Average, more or less. (Colchester 23.11.2021).

Gravicask, half pint at Hop Beer Shop, shared with Finn. Bright golden body, filmy layer leaving upper part lacing on the glass. Promising smooth aromas of ripe citrus and herbal hops. Lemony hops up front to the taste buds, semi-dry, light malty sweetness beneath. Drying end, pine and lemon twist. Medium bodied. Tasty. (Chelmsford 23.11.2021).

Half-pint, cask at the Ale House in Chelmsford. Shared with Finn. Upper part lacing, fair off-white head, copper coloured body, clear. Moderate smell of toffee and herbal hops. Doughy malt-fruity taste, mid-sweet brown malty twist to it. Ends on the sweet side of bittersweet. Straightforward English bitter. (Chelmsford 23.11.2021).

Light haze on this yellowish gold beer, small white head. Palate is light, semi dry and has a light fine crispness. Thin malts impart a light sweetness. Touch of pine from the hops. Very light lemon, little floral lemon and the lightest possible pinch of lemon sherbet. Light finish leaves a mild lemony linger. A light but clean and pleasant affair.

Bright clear gold beer, decent white head. Palate is light, semi dry and has a good fine minerally crispness. Slightly thin malts, a reasonable sweetness, 'bout right for this pale ale. Ahhh Sorachi... such a room divider, but fortunately I am on the side of the room that just pities the other half whilst knowing they are wrong. This pale ale is bloody well hopped with this marvellous Japanese lupulus. Intense and fairly bitter lemon, touches of lemon peel and lemon sherbet. A herbal skunky bitterness is well intertwined along with a crispy pine. The beer finishes light and leaves a slightly spicy lemon bitter linger. Really punchy Sorachi beer delivered in a crisp bright pale ale outing and definitely one of the better beers I've had from Colchester.

Gravity cask at Pigs Ear 2021 - Hackney. Pours mostly clear ruby with a frothy, off-white head. Lightly sweet with assertive leafy, earthy hops, dried berries, toasted grains. Light bodied with fine carbonation; nicely conditioned. Moderate bitterness to finish, more earth, leaves, leather, toasted grains. Good overall.
