Gravity cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Almost black, opaque with an uneven loose khaki head. Roast malt, liquorice, spruce in the aroma with come cinnamon and a little bit of lime zest. Initially there's a lovely fruity sweetness to the taste, but the finish is far drier. Astringent notes to the finish obscure the more interesting flavours of cocoa bitters, bramble, horehound, more liquorice. Very interesting stuff, incredibly well put-together.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Amber/brown, clear and flat with a small, uneven, loose off-white head. Grainy, malty aroma with white pepper, tree sap and golden syrup. Sweet and slightly spicy taste which reveals an acidic bitterness closer to the finish. Forest floor notes in the aftertaste. A solid cask amber and not the usual run of the mill.

Keg @ Shuffledog, Leeds. Very dark with a thin head. Has a heavy nutty aroma and is nutty in taste too. Its ice cream influence is evident in its easy-drinking texture, but mainly in its creamy aftertaste.

Handpull cask from the Blue Boar, Leicester. Dark brown with a loose and uneven khaki head. Smells of green coffee beans, vanilla, a touch of smoke and elderberry. Taste is a bit less bold, with the bitterness of the hop jarring against rather than complementing the sweet coffee flavours. And the body is far too thin. A neat concept, and an enjoyable beer. To be honest this probably works better on keg.
