Cask at PoW, Aberdeen. It pours clear nut brown with a khaki head. The aroma is woody, nutty, brown bread, ryvita, baked goods, dusty leather and subdued marmalade vibes. The taste is firmly dry, woody, toasted nut, leather, brown bread, toasted spice, leather, later on comes the marmalade...pithy, zesty, bitter orange and some waxy rind. Finish is firmly dry and pithy. Average body and soft carbonation. Quite restrained on the marmalade front, but perhaps that's a good thing? Not bad.

Cask at PoW, Aberdeen. It pours clear blonde with a fluffy white head. The aroma is soft, fresh, zingy citrus, lemon curd, doughy white bread, marmalade sandwiches, touch of beach and light florals. The taste is smooth upfront, then a touch of bitterness creeps on, zingy, tangy, zesty, lemon curd, grapefruit, pomelo, starburst, bread, biscuit and dryness towards the finish. Light body and soft, velvety mouth feel. Easy going hoppy blonde ale.

Can from Lidl Inverurie. It pours darkest brown to black with a decent khaki head. The aroma is dark, decadent, deep roasted malt, dark chocolate, umami, quite savoury, some dried fruits, fruit cake, Eccles cake, toasty brown sugars and a touch of rocky road. The taste is firmly dry upfront, some bitterness, light tannin, dark roasted malt, charred, dark chocolate, mellow alcohol warmth, toasted spice, umami, liquorice and burnt toast with a warming and toasty finale. Fulsome body, fine carbonation and slick mouth feel. I like this savoury character to it. Little sweetness on the go. Particularly good at the price point.

Can from Sainsbury’s. Black body with a thin tan head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of rum, liquorice and prune. Flavour of nuts and dark chocolate. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Rich and boozy. This is very nice and I was pleased to see no lactose on the ingredients list.
