On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).
Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.
So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.
Acquired by Swinkels Family Brewers in 2021.

330ml can. Pours a hazy yellow gold with a small, foamy, short lived, white head that laces. Mild aroma of wheat malt, Belgian yeast, coriander and floral hops. Sweet flavour of bready wheat malt, orange peel, white pepper, Belgian yeast, coriander and floral hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Refreshing.

Day 1 of the Fin curated advent calendar for Loz consumed at home Monday 1st December 2025 listening to ByteFM and cooking Gnocchi, Cherry Tomato and Feta bake. Pours hazy mid gold, very lively on the pour, really busy however the white head soon retreated after pouring. Very good mouthfeel, clean, brisk, a little buzzy. Grassy hoppiness, a little clean vanilla, citrus. This is a solid Brut IPA. Score 7.0

Heel actief troebel geelbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is bitter zoet en hoppig met wat hars, citrus, gras en een beetje sinaasappel.

On tap at the Uiltje Bar, Haarlem on 29th November 2025. Deep copper with pale tan foam and full lacing. Nutty malts in aroma. Tangy fruits and nutty malts in-mouth with the suggestion of salt. Cake fruits and spiced malts dominate the finish. Zingy mouthfeel and a medium body. Very pleasant.

On tap at the Uiltje Bar, Haarlem on 29th November 2025. Dense sepia black with pale tan foam and full lacing. Strong roasty malt aroma. Roastiness, bitterness and smoked citrus notes in-mouth, and a pungent blend of coffee, earthy spices, smokes and dark chocolate to finish. Medium bodied with an engaging mouthfeel. Superb.

On tap at the Uiltje Bar, Haarlem on 29th November 2025. Hazy golden amber with dense yet decaying off-white foam and plenty of lacing. Tropical fruits and citrus peel in aroma. Sweet and tangy citrus in-mouth with a few spices, and a fruity finish. Medium bodied with a zingy mouthfeel.

Levendig troebel donkergeel bier met schuim. Smaak is bitterzoet en fruitig met iets van mango, honig, wat sinaasappel, ananas en wat vanille.

One of the post-Heineken takeover NEIPAs by Uiltje (launched two years after said takeover, which took place in 2021) - now on the shelves of the Albert Heijn supermarkets. My can comes from the plant in Lokeren and was brewed in August - so I am tasting a hazy IPA from a supermarket at a mere three months old... I am still impressed by this radical evolution in beer, even despite the Heineken takeover in this case. Medium thick, off-white, 'Brugse kant'-like lacing, breaking but generally stable head on a hazed yellow blonde robe with warmer apricot tinge. Aroma of granadilla, overripe papaya, stale pomelo juice, gari, stewed sweet onions, 'diesel', dough, very ripe cucumber flesh, sweetclover, hints of mango, cooked green bell pepper and honey. Fruity onset from the hops - again granadilla and papaya, along with citric pomelo or even yuzu, but remaining quite low in sweet effects for this style; lively carb with minerally effects, smooth pale maltiness straightforwardly ensuing - but drenched in the hops, combining citrusiness with pepperiness and a dash of tropicalness, pushing forward retronasal aromas of lime blossom, fresh vine leaf, starfruit and pomelo peel. The hops even add some lingering bitterness, while a deeply situated yet persistent minerality also 'zings'. Fruity and zesty NEIPA - not as 'juicy' as expected perhaps based on its name, but decent enough. In rating this, I do not forget that I found this at less than three months old on a supermarket shelf - let that sink in, if you are old enough to remember what beer was in Western Europe two or three decades ago...
