Description
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.

On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).

Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.

So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

Had this at Derat Cafe, Utrecht, Netherlands, Saturday 28th September 2013 Pours dark amber with a medium white head. Much like the previous offering from this brewery this also was showing a little bit of butteryness on the nose. This was certainly hoppy but a bit sweet, its ok but not as good as the ’people watching’ out of the window. A5 A4 T6 P3 Ov13 3.1

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 25 July 2013) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, citrus, blood orange, grapefruit and resin. Malty, fruity taste with notes of blood orange, grapefruit, caramel and a dry finish with a fresh citric bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty with a fresh hop character. Nice one.

25/VIII/13 - 33cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home - BB: V/14 (2013-807)

Clear red amber beer, nice irregular off-white to light beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: caramel, toast, sugary, bit nutty, caramelised, almonds, grains, some horse stable. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to light body. Taste: caramel start, toast, grains, hay, cow fodder, bit of citrus, medicinal bitterness. Aftertaste: dry bitterness, toast, grains, mocha, more like a brown ale (UK) or some German caramel malt experiment, rather than a crisp APA to me.

From tap @ Botermarkt Bierfest Haarlem 2013. Cloudy, very dark color, just not quite black. Dense beige head, not much. Aroma’s: sweet, roasted, dried fruit (raisins), notes of vanilla, oak, a little boozy. Retronasal there’s dried fruit, sweet chocolate, liquor. Flavor is sweet, vanilla, alcohol. Alcohol feel is not too strong, but still warming. Medium to full bodied. Velvetty mouthfeel, low carbonation. Finishes with wood, lightly bitter. The description made me doubt, but this was really nice!

From bottle @ Botermarkt Bierfest Haarlem 2013. Cloudy golden-yellow color. Not much head. Aroma’s: sweet, caramel, fruit, with some yeast retronasal. Flavor is slightly sour with some bretty notes. Light bodied. Shirt finish with grain. Not much depth imo, but I had this right after the very flavorful Raggle Taggle, so might need to re-rate.
