Aroma of wheat. Gold. Flavor is also of wheat with some hops mixed in. A very smooth beer without a bite, something I could drink a lot of. Refreshing. This beer beer has made me think American wheats may have something to offer.

Definitely the worst of the Anchor brews i've tasted. Dark yellow color, quite big head. Aroma is skunky and hoppy. Taste is too bitter and sewer-water-like. Bitter palate. Why do they sell this crap in 0.5 liter bottles, and the nice old foghorn only in 0.25 liter?!

Our special aroma, derived from celery! Very herbal, celery-like aroma gave way to a dark, almost stout-like body. Interesting flavor, which I cannot honestly pin down. Spicy, sweet, and with slight smoked notes. Still, this brew reminds me of liquid vegetables, which I cry out to, "begone!"

Honeyish malt nose. Amberish. Somewhat bland malt taste. I am missing some exitement here.

Bottle
Golden, light carbonation, white foamy head. A bit whitebread malt, fruit, spices and with a nice peppery shot of hops (lime, pine, grass). Medium bodied and more elegantly balanced than many of the ultra-hoppy IPAs out there.

Orange amber, pearling carbonation, off-white head. Slightly buttery malt, caramel, nuts and light fruit aroma. Fruit, caramel and some spices, mellowed, easy drinkable and nice balance. Bitter herbal finish and aftertaste.

A very nice amber colored beer with no head. A very skimpy body however and no real taste to speak of. ReRate- on Tap, great flavor, different from anythign I had before.

This is good, but it's not 2001. I was a bit dismayed that they put alot more spice in this than last year. If you didnt like this, at least give this beer a chance and try some earlier vintages. Still not a bad beer. I really appreciate the full body and deep, dark color. Needs less anise spicing and certainly less clove. Would benefit from more roasted malt. Though the beer, when put together, is made well and barring the too much spice, a great beer. (TRY THE EARLIER VINTAGES!!!)

Orange color. Smooth but not interesting; poor aroma (alcohol, rhum, cardboard, some malt). Some malt and caramel in the taste, not enough hop and aroma.

I realized, after tasting another Anchor Porter tonight, that this beer reminds me quite a bit of Mackeson XXX Stout. Its smooth, relatively thin body is dominated by complex malts. If you like sweet porters, you will like Anchor (I also recommend Arcadia London Porter). This is one of my favorite porters, a beer to be reckoned with (for all who dare challenge its rank).
