750 ml bottle purchased at Blackwell’s Wine and Spirits, SF, CA. Unfiltered golden color with light head in the snifter. Aroma is fruity yeast, dusty wheat and pale malts.

Flavor is dusty corn husk, fruity citrus hop, mild spicy notes and balanced by a hearty chewy yeast body. The texture is juicy with a light spicy flavor in the finish. The body and carbonation are medium. Overall this was a nice surprise and make me want to try more from this brewery. And I get to download a free album from the website! Awesome!

750 c&c from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is yeast, lemon and grass? Med body or so. Flavor is yeasty, lemon, grass, mild earth, herb. This is a nice saison. Not in the same venue as the Belgians, maybe a bit like the French, but maybe it’s American. Fits the style, tasty. Finishing saison.

Breuklen Bier Merchants, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is coffee, toffee, some light chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet. There is little bitterness. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Not to thick or light. Well done in terms of texture to say the least.

2010 Bottle. Pours dark amber orange with off white head. Nose/taste of orange pith, spicy rye, dark fruit, light candy sugar, caramelized oranges and candied resin. Full bodied. Gracefully aged.

On draft at Whole Foods Pasadena. Pours a clear cola brown with a tan head. Tart nose. Flavors of sour cherries with smoky wood notes. Tart finish.

Draft at the Libertine Pub. Nose is floral, caramel, nutty, and dark fruits. Murky rust with a medium, heavy lacing, beige head. Flavor is lightly bitter with fruity notes.

750mL bottle, Batch 67. Aroma has a nice light wheat character with some moderate Brett character, mostly fruity but with some barnyard funk as well. Light acidity with moderate citrus character and some lemon verbena. Pours a fairly clear, pale yellow gold with a big, pillowy white head that slowly but steadily recedes. Light leaving and small legs. Flavor has a medium light acidity with quite a bit of citrus character, especially lemon. Light what character. Medium light peppery phenolic notes with some moderate Brett. Brett character is mostly tropical fruit and cherry pie with light barnyard funk. Nice dry finish with some pepper phenolics and a bit of citrus. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a surprisingly decent beer with some nicely balanced phenolics and citrus character. Light acidity adds a bit more complexity as doors the nice, fruity Brett character.

From a bottle - Batch No. 66. Aroma has a nice, darker caramel character with quite a bit of toffee. Faint roast and chocolate notes. Moderate raisin, fig and prune with a bit of alcohol spice. Light, earthy hop notes. Medium light honey and oxidation notes. A faint, slightly off, seaweed note. Pours a somewhat cloudy copper color with some burnt amber and light brown hues. Somewhat small, daily thin tan head that recedes fairly quickly to a thin film that lingers, slightly thicker on the edges. Light lacing with medium sized legs. Flavor has a light tartness in it with a moderately strong, harsh metallic character. Moderate bitterness. Some cherry and faint berry fruit notes along with raisin and prune. Medium caramel and toffee notes along with faint roast and toasted bread. Metallic aftertaste with some caramel and toasted bread. Some alcohol spice in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Medium low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall this really isn’t a good barleywine, but I am sure age had something to do with the acidity. The aroma is far better than flavor. I doubt the age really had anything to do with the harsh, metallic aftertaste.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Slightly funky, some cola and dark cherry. Deep reddish-brown with taupe head that lingers. Dark fruit, cherry. Nicely sour. Moderate dry finish. Not terribly complex.
