8 Wired Brewing
Microbrewery
in Warkworth,
Auckland,
New Zealand 🇳🇿
Associated Venue: 8 Wired Brewing - Barrelworks
Established in 2009
Our mission is to produce mind blowing beers that will wow craft beer lovers, excite fellow beer geeks and educate the mis-guided who still believe that "beer is just beer". If you want to come on this journey with us, please get in touch.
8 Wired Brewing is inspired by the legendary Kiwi can-do mentality and fellow craft brewers who have dared to challenge the masses and show us all that beer is no longer “just beer”! Known for producing “New world interpretations of old world styles” 8 Wired have multiple shades of very hoppy IPAs, Saisons, Porters and Stouts in their permanent line up and have the biggest barrel aged and sour program in the southern hemisphere.
After 5 years of contract brewing, eventually at 4 different breweries across New Zealand we now finally have our very own brewery (In Warkworth, North of Auckland) where we brew and package everything.

Can to English pint glass.
Appearance: dark brown close to black in the glass with a two finger eggshell white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: sweet coffee with earthy tones to it and a subtle roastiness, light vanilla sweetness then some low riding lactose
Flavor: encompasses all the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to roasty and a subtle toasty sweet note to the quality; finishes coffee forward on the sweet side
Texture: medium bodied, somewhat sessionable; some smoothness but a light drying note to that
Overall: nicely done dessert stout I would welcome again.

Bottle to chalice.
Appearance: murky orange to slight brown color with two finger white foamy head which tapered off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: some banana sweetness; bubblegum, honey, citrusy to floral tones; Belgian yeasty spiciness, light notes of pomme fruits and some caramel malts
Flavor: combines the prior noted aromas to a fair spicy to sweet quality; finishes dry with some Belgian spices
Texture: medium bodied, this is a sipper; light smoothness but also the expected "back-of-the-throat" Belgian grabby-like drying sort of tone
Overall: I say a nicely done Belgian strong ale I would return to.

Can to snifter.
Appearance: dark brown close to black color with a finger's worth of khaki foamy head which trailed off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: some milk chocolate, dark chocolate, sweet & tart cherries, subtle roasted coffee notes
Flavor: combines the prior noted aromas to a very sweet quality; finishes the same way
Texture: medium bodied, leaning to being a sipper; very smooth along the tongue as none of the possible tartness from the cherries prevents any assertiveness here
Overall: very nicely done pastry impy stout well worth coming back to.

Can to stange glass.
Appearance: soft golden yellow color with a two finger white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: light notes of cucumber with some sweet grains, some citrusy tones and subtle sweet wheat
Flavor: combines the prior noted aromas to a fine sweet to tart arrangement then some light bitter notes underneath; finishes leaning into the cucumber and sweet grains
Texture: light bodied, sessionable; fairly smooth along the tongue with some light citrusy tart tones
Overall: actually came across pretty nice for what it is, but I don't see this as a a Berliner weisse. I'd still come back to this.

Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: dark brown to black color with a two finger khaki foamy head which died off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: black coffee, black licorice, dark chocolate, sweet ash, dark bread, dark fruits and a little bit of cocoa powder
Flavor: meshes all the prior noted aromas to a nice sweet to semi-spicy and slightly roasty quality; finishes the same way
Texture: medium bodied, good sipper, light smoothness, light spice strolling over the tongue but nothing offensive, subtle dryness
Overall: pretty nicely done RIS well worthy of coming back to.

Can. Light amber. Almost clear. Modest white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, breadcrust. Perhaps some berries and grass clippings in the taste as well. Clean with unobtrusive but focused crusty malt. Fruit gives way to resinous bitterness. No special flavours but just done really well.

Pours a deep red/brown. bready nose. Smooth, off dry, similar to a red ale really. Very pleasant to drink without being stunning but happy to drink this again for sure.

Bottle at the Bach, Dundee.
Appearance - golden and clear. A little light suds.
Nose - lovely Brett wood and feels more elderflower than grapefruit.
Taste - some grapefruit but mainly barrel funk and a general waxy lemon feel.
Palate - medium bodied, texture, tangy and sour. Good linger.
Overall - great atuff!
