About
8 Wired is a micro brewing company based in Warkworth, New Zealand.

Our mission is to produce mind blowing beers that will wow craft beer lovers, excite fellow beer geeks and educate the mis-guided who still believe that "beer is just beer". If you want to come on this journey with us, please get in touch.

8 Wired Brewing is inspired by the legendary Kiwi can-do mentality and fellow craft brewers who have dared to challenge the masses and show us all that beer is no longer “just beer”! Known for producing “New world interpretations of old world styles” 8 Wired have multiple shades of very hoppy IPAs, Saisons, Porters and Stouts in their permanent line up and have the biggest barrel aged and sour program in the southern hemisphere.

After 5 years of contract brewing, eventually at 4 different breweries across New Zealand we now finally have our very own brewery (In Warkworth, North of Auckland) where we brew and package everything.

From a 500ml bottle on 16/2/2011. Pours a golden orange. Has a powerful and impressive fruity, hoppy aroma - lychee, mango, orange, pine and spice are all there is spades. The flavour is equally impressive - sweet caramel malt, with a hop explosion which includes more orange and mango, some passionfruit, and a big dollop of grapefruit. It has some similarities to Brewdog’s Punk IPA, but is more complex and compelling. One of the finest beers I’ve downed to date. This kiwi mob has produced something that’s every bit as impressive a top flight west coast yank IPA.

Bottle (edited: with a best before of September 24th, 2011...really?! It isn’t holding up now). Looking forward to it. Pours with a hazy, almost brown color, with an off-white head. Aromas of bread, honey maltiness, a bit biscuity, gooseberry, grapefruit and passionfruit, hay and light tropical fruit. Sadly it seems faded (brand new distribution to these parts, but it has come a long way). Flavor is malt forward with biscuit and honey and hay. Hops are very much in the background (wasn’t looking forward to that, was hoping for more as this was brand new to the market). Light citrus notes. Lingering brown sugar. Really malty and not hoppy at all (sadly, would love to try this at the source, I don’t think it transported well, although this is the first time it was distributed here).

Bottle (another _really_ nice-looking one). Reddish amber with an inch of light beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, kumquats, caramel. Creamy mouthfeel. Slightly nutty toffee is rich but not crudely sweet. Citrus, pine and grass in biggish bitterness that doesn’t overmatch the malt. Didn’t much like the HopWired IPA so this was a nice surprise. It’s a bit shouty, but the malt and balance are good enough.
