About
Allan, Simon and John have been keen individual home brewers for many years. They started off with kits bought from shops then progressed to all grain brewing using cobbled together ranges of pots and pans in their kitchens and garages.

The three combined forces with local hotelier Andrew and set up a 4 barrel brewery in the Old Fire Station in John o Groats in 2015. From there they started producing a range of cask ales, starting by selling bottles locally and then distributing across the north of Scotland. They expanded into the oldest building in John O’ Groats, “The Last House”, in 2019, installing a new brewery, bar and visitor centre.

[ As John O’Groats Swelkie ].Clear medium orange amber colour with a small, fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, sweet malt, caramel, sugary, pale malt. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, sweet malt, caramel, sugary. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20161015] 5-3-6-3-11

On cask @ SRAF. Amber with a decent head. Grainy and biscuity on the nose. Some honey and biscuit on the taste. OK, but could be cleaner.

On cask @ SRAF. Hazy yellow. The nose is rotten eggs and there’s a general sulpur thing dominating. You can make out some biscuit but it’s in a cloud of compost bin Looking at other ratings, it would appear this wasn’t showing at its best.
