Bottle from Beerdome. Firm sweet malts with caramel, raisins, soft rum notes, dried fruit, sugar. Sweet flavour with a little alcohol in the finish. Medium body. Nice.

A follow-up quadrupel for me from this brewery, I got the 33 cl bottle from Smaakhuis quite a while ago. The Straffe Hendrik tulip glass I found in Bruges gets the duty this early evening. The body is copper in color and finished by a proper top of parchment tan foam. I smell subtle dark fruit, malt, earth and a hint of whisky booziness. I have a drink. Yes, I do get plenty of whisky, malt again certainly, a touch of plums, oak, a very small toffee sweetness as the beer warms up and leather. I do not care much for scotch whisky but I have developed a taste for it in quads. Decent enough brew.

A clear very dark brown beer, no head. Aroma of whisky, some tart red fruits strong dark malt. Taste of strong dark malt, coffee, whiskey, some tart fruits.

A clear golden yellow beer with a white head. Aroma of tart grapes, strong malt, mild herbs. Taste of strong caramelized malt, nuts, wood, red grapes.

A clear reddish brown beer with a beige lacing. Aroma of semi strong rye malt, caramel. Taste of caramelized malt, rye, raisins, mild bitterness.

Bottle from Beer in a Box. Oaky and complex with ample gin barrel notes, malt, spicy notes, lightly some dried fruit, more gin and a hint of vanilla from the barrel. Moderate bittersweet flavour, not boozy. Very nice.

33 cl bottle obtained from Smaakhuis one year ago. This 2024 version shows a 11.3% abv. This evening I have my Teku glass ready, the cap is off and I pour. Chestnut brown in color with a fine little top of creamy dark khaki tan foam, some lacing possibility. The scent is subtle, I get a bit of ripe fruit, earth and some grain. And the taste builds on the nose, there is oak, plums, peat, red apple, malt and a touch of sweetness. One attribute I like particularly is the feel of the drink, substantially full. It is a quad so there is that positive but I have had many I like better.

Can day 20 of my Mr Hop advent calendar that I got direct from the webshop Vernray Netherlands. Had this day 25, so 25th December, Christmas Day after a 6km loop hike to Gasthof zum Sonnewald Schofweg. Listening to Tortoise - Touch, cooking Za'atar Roasted Squash with Spiced Yoghurt and Pickled Chillies also Quince and Pomegranate Glazed Pork also Lamb, also Feta Börek and finally Baba Ganoush. Pours hazy brown with a white head that didn't last long, soft mouthfeel, it's a nice carbonation. Nicely spicy, definitely Belgian vibes, the gin works well in this, that's two gin infused drinks in the last couple of days for me. Score 7.0
