Drafts from notes. Citrus all up in it. Sweet citrus to start which moves to bitter citrus at the end. I’d call this one a winner.

On tap at the East Roswell Taco Mac. Pours dark brown, with a medium, light tan head that dissipates down to a persistent beige film. The aroma is milk chocolate, light coffee, and a distinct hint of honey, cherrios, and whole grains. In short, it smells like a stout, with graham crackers. Very sweet up front, with burnt bitterness coming forward toward the end, and a fairly unpleasant sour aftertaste. Medium body, with a slick, almost oily mouthfeel. Overall, this is a unique, and tasty stout, but the palate and aftertaste leave something to be desired.

Growler from Ale Yeah!, from the Burnt Hickory tasting. Pours dark, mahogany with a substantial, frothy, beige head. The aroma is figs and dark cherries up front, with some notes of red wine. Lots of caramel, vanilla, and oak in the finish. The flavor is sticky and sweet, with lots of alcohol, wood and earthy notes. Very heavy body, sticky, and very warming, like a good desert wine. The warm, fruitiness up front and the smooth, candy and whiskey notes in the finish work well together to make an excellent, immense beer.

Sample at Ale Yeah, under the name Black Market Baby. Pours black, with a small, off-white head. The aroma is strong resinous hops, dark chocolate, and some light earthiness. The flavor is sweet, with a relatively mild hop profile. Medium body, a little chalky, and thick. Overall, this is a nice fresh hop black IPA. The wet hops work very nicely with the chocolate malts.

Growler from Ale Yeah! Dark, opaque brown, with little head. The aroma is milk chocolate, pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Very sweet flavor, with a good, savory spiciness. Medium body, creamy, and smooth. This is a well-made, flavorful beer. The pumpkin spice is pleasant, but not overbearing.

Sample at the Decatur Craft Beer Fest. Pours gold, with a big, white head. The aroma leaps out with hop notes of citrus, honeysuckle, and light pine. Behind the hops lie some notes of whole grain bread. The hop bitterness is quite assertive, with only a little, mellow sweetness to balance it. Medium body, with a sticky and astringent mouthfeel. The wonderful aroma is the highlight of this beer.

Growler from NRT. Pours light straw, with a medium, off-white head. The aroma is hay, peaches, orange rinds, coriander, and light, brett funk. The flavor is mellow, citrus bitterness, with mild sweetness. The aftertaste is long and bitter, not not unpleasant. Light to medium body, very grainy, and sticky and clingy. Overall, this is a delicious, mellow beer.
