Description
Sudwerk Brewing Co. was founded in 1989 by two German descendants determined to share the high-quality, familiar taste of true German lagers. Since then, we have been relentlessly pushing the boundaries of traditional lager making for 30 years; pioneering the craft beer industry along the way.
We choose to brew lagers not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because the end result will serve to refresh and bring the best of our energies and skill, because the challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to drink, with others too.
Our beer making processes are rooted in traditional German brewing methods but blended with modern, West-Coast craft beer practices. We are not afraid of the time consuming and difficult nature of lagers but instead find it to be an exhilarating challenge. We showcase clean, crisp yeast character, powerful flavor-packed hop bombs, and beautiful malt backbones; all on a lager frame. This is not the dull can of lager beer you think you know.

Pour is a clear orange with a small white head. Aroma has that gose mineral saltiness. Flavor is not heavily salted but that’s followed by a definite bitter citrus. Finish is clean and not overly tart or salty. This was ok. It’s not a salt bomb and it does have some fresh citrus notes.

Pour is a clear yellow with a average white head. Aroma is a dry pils malt but also a kind of sweet simple syrup to it. Flavor loses the sweetness from the aroma. The rest it your typical dry cracker malt with just enough grassy hop. Typical easy drinking soild pils neither great nor bad.

65 cl bottle @ hotel room, Los Angeles. Aroma is a bit odd with menthol and grapefruit. Also some malty notes. Palate is very low on CO2. Flavour has caramel, toffee, grapefruit and nettles. Meh.

Draught (6%) @ Whole Foods, Hillcrest, San Diego. Aroma has soapy tones and cereal-like malt. Flavour has some saltiness and fruity tones. Weird, too clean to be a real gose.

Bomber from a nearby Raley’s grocery. Pours copper with a creamy light beige head. Lots of fruits and some citrus - but not enough to burn the nose. Some rye spice seems detectable. Med + body. Flavor is rye spice forward, followed by lots of fruit - various. Still think citrus. Could be some earth. The hop does burn a bit in the mouth. Finishes fruity, spicy, bitter. This is really tasty.

Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av humle, malt, karamell, bröd med toner av rörsocker och russin. Lätt kropp, stor sötma, lätt beska. Alldeles för vattning och intetsägande.
