Description
Sudwerk Brewing Co. was founded in 1989 by two German descendants determined to share the high-quality, familiar taste of true German lagers. Since then, we have been relentlessly pushing the boundaries of traditional lager making for 30 years; pioneering the craft beer industry along the way.

We choose to brew lagers not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because the end result will serve to refresh and bring the best of our energies and skill, because the challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to drink, with others too.

Our beer making processes are rooted in traditional German brewing methods but blended with modern, West-Coast craft beer practices. We are not afraid of the time consuming and difficult nature of lagers but instead find it to be an exhilarating challenge. We showcase clean, crisp yeast character, powerful flavor-packed hop bombs, and beautiful malt backbones; all on a lager frame. This is not the dull can of lager beer you think you know.

Bottle thanks to the brewer! Pours cloudy cream soda, fizzy white head that dissipates pretty quickly leaving some lacing. Aroma is funky, Brett, fruity, lemon. Flavor is light tart, a bit funky, strawberries and cream, a bit earthy, lots of mineral water. Lightish body, super clean, perhaps a bit uncomplicated.

Bottle as "Farmers Market Citrus Gose Lager." Pours clear deep orange, small off-white head, kinda fizzy but with nice residual and lacing. Aroma is light and dusty, lemon and wheat. Flavor is lemon, wheat, dusty, a bit of caramel, sea salt. Bready. Flavor is light plus sweet, light tart, lemon zest, finishing saltiness. Body is a bit heavy for style. Not really popping.

Bottle, B2, thanks to the guy who brewed it! Pours hazy orange, medium fluffy white head, dissipates fairly slowly, nice residual lacing. Aroma is very citra-esque, dank, tropical, passionfruit, some cat piss, stonefruit, hints of dust and Brett as well. Flavor is fairly dry, fruity, light Brett funk and an explosion of hoppy flavors, along with a nice woody vinous note. Light tartness accentuates the fruity hops and vinous barrel well. Medium body, spritzy carbonation. This is a world class beer. I wish I had a keg of this in the fridge. Yum.

At WTWBA another gem sampled today. Hazy dirty blonde. Nose is hoppy and citrus. Tastes of lemon, lychee, piney hops, Brett, grassy, and right amount of farmhouse notes. This is hoppy delicious and all that is wonderful.

Tap at the Sudwerk Dock. Pours really hazy amber with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is earthy, herby, fruity. Med body. Flavor has floral, fruity, earthy, and a nice level of malt. It’s not entirely dry, and the bitter is firm, but not huge. It’s very fruity and floral and mildly astringent and pleasingly bitter. This is a winner.
