750 ml bottle from Rare Beer Club poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Batch No. 2. Hazy golden yellow with off-white head. Aromas of light barnyard funk, floral notes, light citrus. Tastes of lemon lime citrus, light funk, some tart and light acidic notes, light tropical and stone fruits, light floral. Don’t really notice the barrel character if any. Nice balance between sour and saison, not too sour and not too funky.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is very rich with a nice malt note of dark caramel, toasted bread and light chocolate. A medium light pepper aroma with light vanilla. Some light bourbon and oak notes as well. Light cinnamon after it sits for a bit. Works surprisingly well for all the adjuncts, though I think the pepper will clash in the long run. Pours a dark brown with some burnt amber hues and a medium sized, moderately thick, tan head with decent retention as it recedes to the edges. Light lacing and medium small legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with some nice chocolate and caramel notes. Some toffee and toasted bread also present. Medium light pepper notes and light spice with light cinnamon. Finish has a lot more chocolate with some light bourbon and oak. Hints for alcohol and moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer and I think the adjuncts work better with the doppelbock base than they do with stouts. Some nice malt notes as well and a clean fermentation profile.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle. Aroma has a really nice fruitiness to it with a bit of an oak note. Light strawberry and tropical fruit with a hint of cherry. Faint malt notes add a nice dimension to the beer. A hint of acidity. Pours a hazy, golden straw color with a small, fairly thin, white head that recedes to the edges where it lingers for a bit. Flavor has a medium light acidity with a nice lactic character and a touch of acetic acid. Light oak tannins with a bit of oak character. Medium light fruitiness, tropical and strawberry, but the strawberry doesn’t dominate. Light citrus and faint cherry. Low bitterness. Mouth feel is medium light bodied and slightly watery. Low astringency and and low alcohol warmth. Overall, the aroma is awesome and the flavor nice, but the finish is a bit thin. A much better beer than I expect from Sudwerks. Great fruit notes even if the strawberry isn’t too noticeable.

750mL capped bottle shared by Pruf. A very cloudy, dirty pale color; doesn’t look pretty. Small head fades. That’s the worst part of the beer. Aroma is lemon drop tartness, pear-y sharpness, slick airiness. Flavor has a slight lemony malt biscuit withy long tartness. Light feeling with slightly tingly feel. It’s a nice mix of tart, lactic, citric and light airiness.

Waxed bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours slightly ruddy dark brown with a foamy tan had. Aroma is cinnamon chocolate with a distinct chili tone. Full bodied or nearly. Flavor is "Mexican chocolate" with a noticeable chili tinge. It’s rather malty, but it’s not really sweet, just enough sweet for the chocolate. Think of one of those wafers from Mexico used to make chocolate, then add some chili for fun. It’s flavorful enough that the wood is hard to detect, let alone the type of barrel! Really good stuff.

Tap at Capitol Beer Fest. 5.3%(keg label) Pours extremely hazy god with a foamy off-white head. Aroma of citrus funk. Flavor is rather delicate citrus and funk. Quite delicious. Could drink this for breakfast!

Bottle. Pours a clear pale amber golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty grainy caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.
