Description
Sudwerk Brewing Co. was founded in 1989 by two German descendants determined to share the high-quality, familiar taste of true German lagers. Since then, we have been relentlessly pushing the boundaries of traditional lager making for 30 years; pioneering the craft beer industry along the way.

We choose to brew lagers not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because the end result will serve to refresh and bring the best of our energies and skill, because the challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to drink, with others too.

Our beer making processes are rooted in traditional German brewing methods but blended with modern, West-Coast craft beer practices. We are not afraid of the time consuming and difficult nature of lagers but instead find it to be an exhilarating challenge. We showcase clean, crisp yeast character, powerful flavor-packed hop bombs, and beautiful malt backbones; all on a lager frame. This is not the dull can of lager beer you think you know.

Large white head topping a light yellow body that exhibits a slight haze. Fresh lemony hop aroma. Good bitterness with a solid malt balance. Smooth and well done. Thanks to droopy49 for the chance to try this one.

Thanks to herbjones for this - very dark brown in color - almost spicy aroma, with lots of chocolate presence - you can taste the large amount of munich malt - big caramel flavor, but an almost cinnamon spiciness balances things and keeps the sweetness from being cloying - hops come in late and seem out of place - good, but it kind of falls apart at the end.

Draft. Copper color with a very good whitish head. Big citrus hop aroma. Citrus hops and earthy/spicey hop flavor that just don’t quite meld. Some malt backing.

Draft. Rich red-brown beer with a big beige head. Malty aroma with a little spiciness. Rich caramel malt flavor with some raisin fruit flavors. Their own brewpub serves it way too carbonated.

A deep red beer with a disappearing off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with clear notes of hops. The flavor is malty with notes of malt.

Bottle. Dark amber beer with a nice head. Aroma has a nice maltiness to the typical lager-like aroma. Wonderful fruity flavor of figs and plums to go with a nice malt backbone. Just a little hop spiciness to make this a good all-round beer.

Not sure about this beer; I found it to be tasty at first sip, and go progressively bad as I continued to drink it. Very malty, but not even good malty- just kinda... bland.

Draft. A little overcarbonated, but it's a good decent beer. There is a malt presence that's followed by a dry hop flavor, but I'd like to see just a few more hops in this one. It's good, it's clean, but it just lacks something to push it over the top.

Tap at Brewery. This is big maltly but clean tasting beer with a big malt syrup/caramel aftertaste. Easy drinking for so much alcohol.
