Description
The Lander Brewing Company began brewing beer in the late 1800’s in a small facility just across the Popo Agie River from its current Main Street location. A thriving operation for many years, Lander’s first brewery was forced to cease production due to The Prohibition Act. The brewery was re-established 120 years later and Lander residents and visitors can once again enjoy the delicious taste of fresh, locally made craft beer.

Under the direction of brewmaster David Morton, Lander’s only local brewery has won numerous awards for its craft beers. In 2011 Lander Brewing Company won the coveted Saratoga Steinley Cup, the top award for the best microbrewery in the State of Wyoming. Both The Great American Beer Festival and The North American Brewers Association have bestowed the Lander Brewing Company with abundant medals for several of its beers.

The Lander Brewing Company initially reopened its doors with hopes of bringing craft beer to Cowfish Restaurant and the next door Lander Bar. Over a decade later, the brewery has grown substantially and is now supplying its beer varietals to other restaurant and bar accounts in Lander, as well as in Jackson Hole, Riverton, Casper, Cody, Rock Springs and many other Wyoming locations.

The Lander Brewing Company prides itself on brewing fresh, high quality, “to style” beers using the finest ingredients and techniques. Joining brewmaster David Morton, is brewer Adam Bridgeford. David and Adam's many years of professional brewing expertise in concert with the exceptional water sourced from the Wind River Mountains provide the flavor profile of our many signature beers. You can sample Atlantic City Gold, Jack Mormon Pale Ale, Rockchuck Rye, Half-Tanked Hefeweizen, On Belay IPA and our latest seasonal offerings at the source or at the upcoming Lander Brew Fest.

On draught at The Hangar in Casper.

Pours a muddy orange with nearly no foam and that disappears in a blink of the eye.

Smells spicy, citrus grapefruit, very bitter on the nose.

The taste has grapefruit bitterness, little bit of spice from the rye but man, it's so unbalanced and harsh.

Thin bodied with way too low carbonation.

Yikes, this is awful.

On draught at Frontier Brewing and Taproom.

Pours a hazy straw gold and yellow, brings a fairly large head of foam that shrinks to a fine layer.

The smell is not something to write home aboot. Smells chemical like. Deep whiffs and I do get a bit of peach tartness.

Very lightly flavoured. Light peach, light tartness, slight bitterness also from the peaches.

Light body that turns watery in the finish.

Not something that I would drink again.

Half pour at the Lander Bar. Pours an unclear, reddish color, with a big, foamy, off-white head. The aroma is juniper berries, pine, caramel, and resin. Sharp and bitter, with a reasonably smooth finish. Quality and aggressive.

Half pour at the Lander Bar. Pours black, with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma is pipe tobacco, earth, dark cocoa, and butterscotch. Sweet and malty, with a mellow, roasty bitterness. Medium to heavy body, with a syrupy, yeasty palate. This is a solid, enjoyable stout. Good Belgian yeast notes, and not overly burnt. Nice.

16 ounce Prowler bought at Liquor Shed..$4.00

Pours almost a pitch black with some red tints, small head of tan foam.

Has a dark chocolate/cocoa thing going on. I can smell the oats and there may be a smidgen of coffee.

The taste has oats, dark chocolate bitterness more than a cocoa flavour, coffee is there, not many sweet notes. Finishes with some lactose and bitterness.

Enjoying the smooth mouthfeel.

Quite tasty Oatmeal Stout.

Sampler at Harmony Hops and Hope.

Pours a very dark brown, small head of foam.

Smells kinda smoky, peaty, assertive malt but not sweet. Not bitter either.

Taste is non sweet malt, kinda roasty and toasty, lightly smoky with some peat. Good balance, good rather smooth taste.

16 ounce Prowler bought at Liquor Shed in Casper.

Pours a clear red, small head of white foam, decent lacing.

Smells malty with hints of smoke and the chilies.

The taste has a mix of toasted and bready malt, lightish heat from the chillies, lighter presence of smoke. Ok, it takes a while but the heat builds after the swallow to a more respectable level. That's what I was looking for.

Medium body until the finish where it gets thinner.

All in all, a decent stab at a Chili beer. I can't say that I get anything from the squash other than the smoke.
