Handpull cask at the Cheshire Cheese, Buxton. Dark brown and translucent with a spotty khaki head. Grassy aroma, some herbs, black liquorice. Weird. Bitter taste, very bitter and medicinal in the finish. Light body, soft carbonation. Have no idea what they were aiming for here.

Keg draught at Frog on the Bine, Buxton. Pink and hazy with a ring of white head. Big raspberry aroma, cherry sours, fruit yoghurt. The taste is also quite sour but the fruit holds it up. More lactic character mid-sip, and cleaner toward the finish. Medium hody, heavy tight carbonation. Certainly doesn't taste 6%. I am impressed.

Wonderful brewery tap in town. OK, maybe Buxton have had their issues and they aren't what it used to be. However the brewery tap is going strong, well attended without being crowded on a winter Friday evening. The beer is impressive: Four casks and 14 keg with loads of different styles. OK, maybe too many IPA variations for me butbtheres also sours, strong beers, stouts and a mild. Prices aren't impossible, and I'd say good value considering where you are and what you're getting. Still very much worth a visit.

Keg draught at the brewery tap in Buxton. Mid-gold and clear with a small smattering of not-quite-white head. Aroma is fruity with some metallic notes, a little bit odd but not too off-putting. Taste is pretty bitter, but not intensely so and there's that metallic note again. Weird. Finish gives notes of full, ripe citrus. Medium body with heavy carbonation. Gluten free beer has come a long way bit this leaves a little to be desired.

Now this is a pub. It's so smartly set out with dark wooden panelling and etched windows. Classy, yet inviting. The beer list is almost exclusively RedWillow. Not too many casks on my visit (a few were turned around, I guess that makes sense outside of peak season) but there were enough kegs to keep me interested. Mostly the beers were on the sessionable side but they do go up beyond 6%. Beers mostly priced in 2/3 or a pint but they also do thirds and halves. Prices are more than fair. A must visit.

Keg draught at RedWillow Buxton. Dark brown and insatiable opaque with a ring of khaki head. Coffee understandably dominates the aroma, with notes of praline and salted caramel. Taste is sweet but measured, with hints of hazelnut and Marmite backing up the coffee flavour. Finish isn't exactly dry but it's not laced with sugar. Pretty well attenuated for the style. Medium body, maybe even on the lighter side, with heavy carbonation. Incredible stuff.

Keg draught at Seasons, Buxton. Very light gold, hazy with a small swirl of white head. Light aroma, fresh grass, lime, perhaps a touch of savoury herb. Lovely taste, sweet but not too much, with a touch of dry bitterness nearcthe finish. Notes of Asti, lime juice, underripe satsuma. The body is gentle with spritzy carbonation. I'm impressed.
