Yep, smells kolschy, with good appley-papery-peppery yeast. Some mild, but pleasant herb and lemony character emanating from the hop, minimal, but a nice touch. Clean and crisp with cracker and delicate honey-like malts.
A lot more of the hop evident in the flavor. You do get some interesting stone fruit, almost gummy candy-like character from it. Quite malty, maybe more so than most Kolsches. It's certainly not sweet, but just a bit burly and rich. Doesn't quite refresh on the finish. Maybe they forgot the dry hop doesn't add bitterness and didn't bitter it enough? Whatever the case, while the malt/hop/yeast character is lovely, it's just not quite balanced enough on the overall picture.
Spicy phenolics but no huge clove. Despite how malty their beers are on average, this one smells, at least, quite dry. Stone fruit and a hint of balsamic, ever so slightly.
Still very malty, though, despite the nose appearing more dry. If these guys could just get a bit more attenuation on their beers they'd be a standout here in MA. As is, just a bit too sluggishly sweet. But the yeast profile is classy. More slight vinousness is lovely. No alcohol noted.
A bit of chalk/mineral with fruity white grape and mineral. Not as much of the expected fruit salad or lime from the Motueka. Rich and fruity overall, though.
Vivacious Enigma in the flavor. Huge cherry-melon. I absolutely love this expression of this hop. Mild mineral, with a touch of lime and fruit salad from Motueka in the background. Very deeply malty and, unfortunately, just a bit too sweet, otherwise this would be top tier stuff. Big, rich, honey character and fantastic whirlpooled hop character.
Bread, sweaty hop and toast all at once, with a bit more aroma than many of their beers. Very fruity on the finish.
Buttery with apple, sweaty moderately boiled hop and a lightly toasty, bready, buscuity texture. Sweeter up front but drying out. Despite the butter, apple, pepper, there's something compelling here. Or maybe it's just the throwback novelty.
Toasted brown bread and a bit of peppery, spicy hop.
Clean and malty, not too soft/sluggish of texture, though certainly deeply malted. Excellent toast character and mildly bitter, peppery hop to help balance. Polished, clean and well-made which seems to be the theme here.
