MCR July Specials Beer#1. My only Manchester drinking day this month so a sweep of the one-offs. Hazy yellow-gold in colour with a decent body but very drinkable being juicy and tropical fruity, sweetish too. There's a 4.8% version around too, although this higher percentage doesn't quite feel it beyond its body.

A World Cup Of Beers#35. SPAIN. An international brew with the football and to finish this series perhaps one from the country of the winners tomorrow? It's an almost black bock beer with its alcohol content evident in both aroma and taste. This relents a little in its aftertaste and the mix of things in here is quite complex within its oily-smooth texture, but you can pick out some caramels, sugars, fruits and toasty malts. My last drink during a World Cup game in this edition in the third-place goal-fest match between France and England.

A World Cup Of Beers#34. USA. An international brew with the football and a final nod to one of the hosts with this gentle tasting clear golden coloured ale. Gentle might also be described as understated in some quarters but there's some nice pale ale character involved here despite the writing on its label. Hop-malt, a hint of bready-sugars. Drank whilst watching the penultimate match of the tournament - France vs England.

A World Cup Of Beers#33. ENGLAND. An international brew with the football and went for the most quintessential English beer I could find in my cellar to compliment the country's attempt to be the second best losers in the tournament. This clear amber coloured ale is the new Marston takeover version of this Wainwright, with a fair hop-malt balance, with taste to it. It's very traditional for this part of the world and its easy strength makes it palate-friendly and goes down quite fast. This is better than I expected it to be. Drank whilst watching the Third Place Game - France vs England.

Close to the river in the Calder Valley below the town on its south side, it's closer to its own Brewery than the water as it's just around the corner on the cusp of the industrial estate it sits in, although it's practically all houses on the long road down to it. In its own building it's clearly a bit of a flagship for the brewery and has been made plush in the traditional pub sense, and it's very appealing and comfortable for it, with lots of rooms, most have been made open plan. The long bar against the side wall has all your Ossett beers in cask, keg and cans in fridges, but guest ales are here too. Outdoor seating is available out front and down its side, it's family friendly and a pizza outlet at the rear attracts those looking for food.

Suburban pub in its own building between the two main roads that head towards Horbury on the southern side of the town of Ossett. An Ossett Brewery pub, it has cask and keg options from this brewer on the bar that faces you as you enter its central doorway. Seating is all around the central service area with a very traditional and comfortable setting. All routes lead to the rear terrace area where the pub's car park also exists for a quiet and pleasant outdoor drinking space.
