Bottle at 4.5% from Seoul Plaza, Reading. Label suggests this is now contract-brewed at Tsing-Tao. Far Eastern lager-off: South Korea (Terra) vs Hong Kong (Blue Girl). Bronze-gold with a negligible white head. Sweetish, with sweetcorn, caramel, vanilla and malt and just a hint of metallic dust. Thin, prickly fizz. Pretty poor, but on balance this just edges it over the Korean brew as I prefer the malty hints of this to the slightly unpleasant hoppy hints of the Terra.

Bottle from Seoul Plaza, Reading. Far Eastern lager-off: South Korea (Terra) vs Hong Kong (Blue Girl). Gold with a white head. Unpleasant aroma of urine and green leaves. Taste is a little better - there's some honey with a mild leafy hop note. It is, however, thin and watery and far too fizzy. Overall - it's not totally Terra-ble (sorry!), but it's still pretty poor. It's definitely got a hint of hops to it, but they're not a hop flavour that I like. For me, the Hong Kong Blue Girl was marginally better.

Can from Beer Merchants Tap, Hackney Wick. New brewery and a new region for me. Lightly hazed gold with a white head. Pine up front, lots of ginger, and some pink grapefruit coming through against a mellow malt background. Less bitter than many IPAs. Less aggressive too; slips down very easily and was a great match for my tandoori chicken. Enjoyed it.

Bottle from Mleczko, Reading. Dark brown with a beige head. There's an initial flavour of kvass - rye bread, dark brown sugar, a touch of spice. Nice-ish flavour, but horribly sweet. However, you're then hit with a bitter and slightly sour taste of cardboard and metal with hints of that disgusting chicory-based fake coffee stuff - all of which is not only nasty, but clashes horribly with the sweet kvass-like start. The finish is sweet and syrupy yet still with the harsh metallic bitterness. Don't know quite what they're trying to do here, but overall this is grim (apart from the looks, which keep the score much higher than it should really be). Who actually buys this stuff (other than beer raters desperate for another tick of course 🤪)?
