Cask at Paramount, Manchester (but have drunk it previously). Pours very dark reddish-brown with minimal foamy tan head. There’s roasted malts and hints of spice in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but also some underlying bitterness and a rather watery texture. Flavour has roasted malts and coffee plus hints of dark fruits and chocolate. Some bitterness in a fruity finish. Reasonable enough but I wouldn’t call it a bitter. My records say Mild but not’s not quite right either. Maybe an Old Ale ?

Cask at Calverts Court, Stockport. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is subdued – just hints of berry fruits and malts. In the mouth it is sweet but with some underlying sharpness and traces of alcoholic strength. Flavour has malts, rye and autumn fruits with some hints of marmalade later on. Some fruitiness in the finish. This is decent enough tastewise, but somewhat rough and ready.
