On tap at Crewe Dog, Crewe (as Jubel Peach Beer). Pours pale straw with a medium sized foamy white head, good lacing and medium carbonation. There’s peach and lime in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and slightly watery. Flavour has malts, tinned peaches and syrup with a little zestiness becoming apparent later. Sweetness lasts into the finish. This isn’t a bad beer per se, and it IS refreshing but it’s just terribly bland !

On tap at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark maroon with minimal off-white head and medium carbonation. There’s figs, malts and berries in the aroma. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with a little underlying sharpness. Initial flavours are malts, figs, raisins and cherries but later on come nuts, red berries and hints of caramel as well leading to a somewhat fruity finish. This is quite nice – and definitely a grower !

On tap at Hops, Crewe (but have drunk it before). Pours almost black with a medium sized foamy tan head and good lacing. The aroma is a somewhat curious mix of malts, molasses, chocolate and earth. In the mouth it is mainly sweet but with some bitter and sharp hints and a creamy texture. Flavour has roasted malts, coffee and hints of citrus. Some floral hops too which gradually increase leading to a slightly dry finish. This is rather nice ! Lots of complexity and hides its strength well.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a hazy chestnut with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. There’s vanilla, malts and maple in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy with malts again to the fore. Flavours too of nuts and maple plus hints of honey and werthers original sweets. Finish is slightly dry. I think this is fairly decent but it was served too cold to really tell !

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours almost black with minimal cream head. There’s honey, malts and biscuits in the aroma. In the mouth it is mainly sweet but with a little sharpness. Flavours of roasted malts, chocolate, honeycomb, berry fruits and plums. Hints of cola and vanilla come later. Finish is slightly dry. This is decent.

Cask at Tom’s Tap, Crewe. Pours a (very) dark reddish-brown with a small frothy off-white head and good lacing. There’s ginger, oats and bran in the aroma plus a hint of treacle. In the mouth it is quite sweet but with also some sharpness, and a rather watery texture. Flavour is strongly ginger, though this sometimes gives way to dark fruit. Roasted malts are also around and hints of black wine gums, plums and spice come later. Fruitiness lasts into the finish. This is nice but is let down by its thinness.

On tap at Tom’s Tap, Crewe. Pours golden yellow with minimal off-white head, good lacing and medium carbonation. Not much of an aroma – just hints of floral hops and melon. In the mouth it starts off slightly sweet (in the cheeks) but quickly becomes quite bitter (on the tongue). Flavour is marmalade, oranges, floral hops and hints of citrus, with a little lemongrass coming through later, leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is quite decent.
