Cask at Sun, Stafford. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a greenish tinge, a small foamy almost white head and excellent lacing. The aroma has malts, caramel and oranges. In the mouth it is tending towards bitter, though with some underlying sweetness and creamy texture. Flavours are malts, floral hops, grains and herbs. Later some hints of hedgerow fruits and spices as well leading to a fruity and slightly dry finish. This is surprisingly nice.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a pale yellow with a slight greenish tinge, minimal almost white head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma, plus some hints of caramel. In the mouth it is sweet and zesty with a creamy texture. A little bitterness too which gradually increases. Flavour has floral hops and malts with hints of corn, citrus and pine coming later. Finish is somewhat dry. This is decent.

Cask at Borough Arms, Crewe. Pours a slightly greenish pale straw with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly floral hops plus some crab apples. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy but with a little bitterness too. Flavour has malts, floral hops and some lemon. After a while citrus comes through and gradually builds, plus some hints of grapefruit. Finish is slightly dry. It’s reasonable – no great shakes.

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a cloudy pale straw with a medium sized white head and good lacing. There’s malts, oranges and floral hops in the aroma. In the mouth it is basically sweet with just a little sharpness. Main flavour is slimy kveik yeast with tropical fruits, mango and oranges plus some floral hoppiness later. A little bitterness in the finish. Too much kveik yeast for my tastes.
