On tap at Angel, Stockport. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a medium sized foamy almost white head and good lacing. The aroma has Belgian Malts, bananas, peel and spice. In the mouth it has typical witbier Characteristics, falling somewhere between sweet and sharp. Flavour has apples, oranges, bananas, pears and coriander, with hints of malts and soda coming later. Finish is light, fruity and slightly dry. This is a decent witbier – though would probably taste better on a warm summer’s day rather than a cold December one !

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a sizable frothy tan head and good lacing. The aroma has malts and chocolate alongside some sweet nuttiness. /in the mouth it is surprisingly bitter with a little underlying sharpness. Flavour initially is malts, almonds and oranges with hints of dark fruits and molasses coming later. Bitterness also gives way to sweetness in a fruity and slightly dry finish. This is decent – I like how it changes character as you progress down the glass.

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a bright ruby with a sizable off-white head and good lacing. There’s malts, jam and honey in the aroma. In the mouth the creamy texture is the first thing that hits. A modicum of bitterness comes quickly after. Flavour starts off as floral hops and berry fruits, but hints of others come later – ash, plums, salt, nuts. Finish is quite dry. This is decent enough and has the depth expected of a Union Set beer, but is still disappointing as it is nowhere near as good as Fullers ESB !

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small foamy tan head and some lacing. There’s roasted malts in the aroma alongside milk chocolate and dried fruit. In the mouth it is rather sweet with flavour of cream, cherries, roasted malts and chocolate. A little alcoholic strength can be detected later, leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is decent – though could have done with more stout characteristics.

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with minimal off-white head, good lacing, and high carbonation. The aroma has bread rolls and stone fruits plus hints of malts and floral hops. In the mouth it has both sweet and sharp characteristics with plenty of floral hops and citrus. There’s also spice and peaches in the mix, plus later a little straight up bitterness and hints of grapefruit. Finish is dry and somewhat sticky. This is reasonable – probably better than that but i didn’t appreciate the fizziness.

Cask at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – just hints of malts and citrus. In the mouth it is basically bitter, but with a little underlying sweetness. There’s a mix of hops in the flavour quite a bit of ginger plus hints of malts, marmalade and oranges. Finish is dry and slightly spicy. This is decent- nicely restrained.
