Grew up in England and developed a taste for English ales. Traveled a lot to Belgium and surrounding countries and grew to appreciate these European styles. Traveled to USA a fair bit, starting in the dark days when it was a beer desert, and then enjoying the flourishing microbrewery scene. Moved in 1994 to Australia which was then a beer desert, so grew to appreciate the excellent Aussie wines and my own homebrew. Now there is a flourishing microbrewery scene in Aus, which is great. I travel a lot to Asia, which was generally grim for beer, although with some interesting pockets of excellence there if you looked hard; but now several countries have good craft beers. I was a RateBeerian for 18 years (Oct 2007 until its demise in 2025), with username Pyobon.

(On tap) Black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark roast grain and notes of cardamom. Very full bodied. Liquid toffee. Smooth, sticky. Fine carbonation. Flavour starts very toffee sweet. Cardamom appears and then a nice black coffee / dark chocolate bitterness steadily builds. A nice note of alcohol is present in the finish. Excellent

(On tap) Hazy yellow with small white head. Citrus aroma. Smooth body with fine carbonation. Nice and tart with lemon and lime. Lactose notes provide pleasant balance. Very nice. Slightly reminiscent of a lemon and lime splice ice cream.

(Can) Pours cloudy amber yellow with tiny white head. Lovely fruity aroma - mango, citrus and some funky hints. Medium body with fine carbonation. Good taste. Fruity at start but then herbal hippiness kicks in and develops to the finish which has surprisingly gentle bitterness. Very nice.

(Can) Pours opaque / murky amber with tiny white head. Great fruity aroma - orange, mango. Medium body with fine bright carbonation. Great taste. Pleanty of fresh fruity flavours plus a nice crisp bitterness. Very good.

(Bottle) Clear pale amber, small white head. Bread aroma. Medium body with good carbonation. Taste of bread with notes of candy and rather watery. No bitterness. Not good but drinkable.

(Can) Pours slightly hazy amber with tiny white head. Bold aroma of pineapple and pine. Medium body with plenty of soft mouth filling carbonation. Taste is hops, lots of hops. There’s some brief tangy fruit at the start and the hop bitterness. Very good, albeit rather intense.

(On tap) Murky amber with small pale orange head. Orange aroma. Medium body with fine carbonation. Tart fruity orange with some gentle peppery bitterness in the finish. Very good.
