Grew up in England and developed a taste for English ales. Traveled a lot to Belgium and surrounding countries and grew to appreciate these European styles. Traveled to USA a fair bit, starting in the dark days when it was a beer desert, and then enjoying the flourishing microbrewery scene. Moved in 1994 to Australia which was then a beer desert, so grew to appreciate the excellent Aussie wines and my own homebrew. Now there is a flourishing microbrewery scene in Aus, which is great. I travel a lot to Asia, which was generally grim for beer, although with some interesting pockets of excellence there if you looked hard; but now several countries have good craft beers.

With 61 taps this place is all about beer. Conveniently located close to the city hall it is a modern place on a street with shops and restaurants. A huge range of beers, many from Scandinavia. Some were exceptional. You can take away in cans they fill from the tap. The staff are friendly. The place is fairly comfortable and open. I visited at 4pm on a Sunday so it wasn’t too hard to find a seat. They serve food but I didn’t try it. The vibe is beer bar. Will definitely return next time I am in Copenhagen.

(On tap) Black with good brown head. Amazing chocolate and vanilla aroma. Full bodied smooth, slightly sticky, with fine carbonation. Excellent taste. Start is chocolate and vanilla with some nice gentle tart notes of dried fruit and maybe alcohol. There’s a restrained dark toffee sweetness in the middle. Then a very dark chocolate bitterness steadily grows leaving some bitterness and alcohol in the finish inviting another sip for the sweet start. Exceptional.

(Can) Pours hazy amber with tiny white head. Subtle citrus and toffee aroma. Medium body with good bright carbonation. Brief fruity start and caramel malt and a good stringy hoppy bitterness cut in. Strangely, and pleasantly, some hints of chocolate and coffee. Very good.

(Can) Pours murky gold with tiny white head. Limey aroma. Light body with plenty of soft carbonation. Little flavour other than lime. It’s actually quite pleasant as a limey alcoholic beverage but very sad as a beer.
