Bottle from Geers. Hazy golden, stable, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of ripe peach & apricot, white grape, white wine, carambola, soda water, oak, hay, citrus zest. Taste has sweetish peach & apricot, going over citrus zest, lime & grape with subtle funky hay notes in a bread-crusty, cereally malt body. Tart finish offering more pronounced lactic acid and ripe yellow fruits as well as oak and grape skin tannins, and warming sherry-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Dulle Teve with added complexity, very nice; just a tad too fizzy for my taste.

Bottle from a Walloon shop.
A: hazy amber, small, foamy, off-white head.
A: oxidised pear & red apple, dust, wood, cognac.
T: oxidised sweetish pear, wood, wet cookie spices.
F: herbal hops, red fruits, warming 'dusty' cognac-like alcohol.
P: medium body, oily texture, average carbonation.
A forgotten bottle that has probably seen better days, although I don't suspect it was great to begin with.

Lateste version in a 33cl bottle. Pralines, chocolate sauce, espresso, teriyaki, bourbon, black olive, beef jerky, cigar tobacco. Taste has sweet prune & brambleberry, fondant maltiness, bitter espresso, umami teriyaki. Earthy hops, a bit solventy buit countered again by the roasted maltiness. Quite boozy whisky-like alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Slightly subtler than the Double Black, but let's see what some ageing can do with this.

Lots and lots of bourbon, hot alcohol or fusel, solvent, shoe polish, soy sauce. Taste has sweet chocolate sauce, umami soy sauce, solvent, alcohol. Very alcoholic into the finish with boozy bourbon warmth. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Oof, I was hoping to get more out of this but it's way to rough. Let's give that bottle in the cellar a few more years...

Clear golden, small, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of green apple, gooseberry, sourdough, hay, straw, vanilla. Taste has sour green apple, plum & grape; some funky hay & straw before finishing with grassy hops, vanilla, yellow fruits and wood, fairly oxidised too. Medium body, moussy texture, average carbonation. Pretty decent bit didn't hold up as well as the non-BA base beer.

Taste has sour green apple & sorrel in a sourdough-like, bread-crusty malt base with lactic acid and funky hay notes. Old grassy hops in the finish, lingering green apple & oak. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Solid Sour Ale with spicy notes; complex yet restrained; more than anything, a striking reminder of what Struise was capable of.

Hazy dark brown, stable, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of ripe grape, dried banana, candied plum, wood, vanilla, old milk chocolate, apple peel, brown sugar. Taste has sweet raisin, banana & grape in a brown-sugary, brioche- & toffee-like malt body. Long fruity finish offering notes of wood, vanilla (bourbon!), candied cherry and vague herbal hops; a dash of warming port-like alcohol. Medium to full body, oily, bit sticky texture, soft carbonation. Very elegant and deliciously fruity.

Expressive aroma of malt vinegar, fermenting cherries, brambleberry, nectarine, leather, pralines, fruit liqueur, almond, tobacco (indeed, Tim!), vague diacetyl, port wine. Taste has sweetish ripe brambleberry & cherry going over funky & sourish notes of yoghurt, malt vinegar and leather, kept together by a milk-chocolatey, almondy malt body. Tart finish of dried dark fruits, woody tannins and warming port-like alcohol. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Has definitely 'mellowed' over the years but not lost any complexity. This is excellent!
