A huge beer brewed to celebrate our 600th Gyle, WLS060 is a Barley Wine brewed over summer 2021 and laid to rest, maturing in the bottles, allowing flavours to round out and integrate, ready for release in time for Winter 2021.

Expect a body of luxurious smooth caramel, intense malt flavours and a hint of nutty umami on the palate, before a delectable warming alcohol finish.

The strength of a North American Barley Wine but with the malt flavours and mouthfeel of an old English classic. Like the finest Christmas Pud enjoyed in your favourite woollen pullover beside a crackling, roaring fireplace, curtains drawn and fairy lights twinkling. The ultimate Winter warmer.

330ml bottle purchased from the Offie and drunk at home. Light reddish brown and clear with an off-white head. Heavy caramel aroma, some raisins, dates, watercress. Sweetctaste, a bit medicinal in the following bitterness. Wow. Quite bitter on the finish. An unwelcome vegetal character present throughout but it's less once the beer settles. Light body

8th March 2023 Almost clear amber beer, small bubbly tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth but thin and dry feeling malts, a little caramel, mildly tangy. Smooth light cappuccino. Fruit cake and estery sweetness. Touch of boozy spice. Smooth and semi dry finish. Tad too estery for my liking but it is nicely fruity and has decent if immature malt character. 7.1

6th December 2025
Woody bitterish caramel and toffee, a little cream. Brandyish ripe fruits. A little spice. Nice. 7.8

(Draught at Craft Beer Co, Covent Garden, London, 27 May 2022) Dark amber colour with no head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, treacle, dried fruit and raisins. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, raisins, dried apricots, toffee, candy sugar, vanilla, caramel and a warming, vinous finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. Tasty, rich and well balanced barley wine. Very nice.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Clapton Craft. Pours clear honey-gone with a modest, foamy off-white head. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, mild leafy bitterness, toasted malts, booze, caramel, light bourbon, vanilla, golden saisons. Full bodied, oily, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, lightly sticky. Good fun.

Bottle ordered from Ghost Whale, Putney. Aroma is sweet and fruit, with chocolate cake, nuts and a boozy edge. Opaque amber brown. Frothy beige head disappears abruptly. Medium bitter frukt and booze alongside an earthy streak. Underlying tangy sourness. Medium bodied. Oily. Flat-average carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Bitter yet smooth Barley Wine.
