Tap at Beergeek Bar, thx Gurthnar! Hazy dark brown body, off-white head. Lightly perfumey woody aroma, solid nutty maltiness, lightly tart. The taste then turns remarkably lean, dry, sharply sour. Yeah, bit nutty and caramelly still, woody - bit simplistic, low chocolate, but that sour note is clearly off. Way past its prime. Funnily, most people seem to like it this way, but it's not what this was supposed to be, and, well, I didn't.

Bottle from Stacks. Bottled: 9/07/2024. Hazy dark brown, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of prune, raisin, hard caramel, brioche, red apple peel, pear, almond, vanilla, bourbon, leather. Taste has sweetish prune & raisin, some sourish brambleberry in a caramelly, almondy and rye-like malt body with some spicy notes and herbal liquorice. Herbal hops in the finish, lingering dried fruits, sourish tannins and warming bourbon alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Lacks a bit more body and the sourishness detracts from the main profile too.

Bottle 2022 vintage, thanks to my bro. It pours clear deep brown with a medium Khaki head. The aroma is bourbon soaked oak, dried fruits, fruit cake, malt loaf, vanilla, vanilla fudge, brown bread, nuttiness, leather and dull cacao. The taste is slick, oily, sour tangy dried frs, raisin, sultana, fig, cherry, fruit cake, malt loaf, bourbon soaked oak, dull vanilla, estery fruits, nuttiness and cacao wig a some warming alcohol though the finish. Fulsome body and moderate carbonation. An interesting combo for sure. Nice depth.

Aus der Flasche (bottled 17.07.2024/bbe 17.07.2029) im 2025-06 getrunken. Ein echt spannende Interpretation eines sehr klassischen Bierstil. Der Roggeneinfluß und der Einfluss von Ostfladerns, wo Struise braut, bringt eine feine Frucht ins Ale. Und ist da eine Robustasäure im Glas? Spannend! Auf hohe 10% hätte ich blind nie getippt. Ein tolles Bier!

Nose is spicy, licorice, brown sugar, hint of raisin, almond, a lovely rich bourbon. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, licorice, spice, malt, hint of brown bread, more sugar, bourbon, almond, Christmas cake leading to a spicy finish.
Struise barrel age so well. Always so balanced.

Opaque colour, small beige head. Toasted licorice aroma with some bourbon and dark fruits. Medium-bodied. Flavour has also sweet licorice, some bourbon and dark fruits. Hides ABV well. Interesting.

On tap at Man in the Moon. Pours clear brown with a beige head. Rye malts and bourbon on the nose. Flavour has a lot of boozy bourbon, some dried fruits, light rye malts. Very nice barrel-aged beer.

On tap at Man in the Moon, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of bourbon barrels, Belgian yeast and almost a port-like presence. Flavour has a nice bourbon character, earthy rye, some spicy Belgian yeast, and soft port character. Really nice barrel treatment on a great base. Excellent.
