We wanted to make a beer that was a bit outside of both breweries normal wheelhouses, so together we chose to create a twist on the classic, tart, Berliner Weisse. Were playing off the slightly sour twang of the base beer by adding heaps of dry-hopped flavor to complement the tartness with citrusy and fruit-forward hop notes. The primary yeast strain is Sierra Nevadas famous Kellerweis wheat beer yeast, which imparts notes of banana and clove, blending seamlessly with the hops to create a dry, white-wine-like flavor that is as crisp and refreshing as anything we've tried.

Tatsy Berliner. It's got a better taste to it over others I've had.

12oz bottle pours with a somewhat effervescent pure gold body that supports a full light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a dash of earthy gravel, a sense of Brett, bit of hay and then faint tart smelling citrus blended with pears. Interesting. The taste initially delivers an increasing tart puckering tart to lemon lime citrus sourness. To midway this develops into more of an acidic bite with a light crushed aspirin sensation. A few more sips and flashes of dry chemically nuanced Brett are noticed. Well below these notes is an all to faint cracker maltiness. Decent but poorly balanced.

Bottle. A- Tortilla, tart. A- Golden orange color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Tart, slightly skunky, musty, corn. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly tart finish. O- Saved this one the longest from the pack and it probably should have been one of the first to drink. A bit of an off flavor to it. Not sour enough.

Bottle. Hazy gold with a white head that's soon a coat Aroma mild funk, lemon (a little laundry detergent like in sum) mandarins. 7- Sour, slightly slippery 4 with mango as well as citrus. Dry with some bitterness creeping in pleasingly late. Refreshing. Hops are well judged and add a little twist rather than stomp all over things.

Lime and lots of bread yeast. Done well for style and not overly spur but still not hugely pleasant like massages. Pours golden with decent head and lacing. Tangy finish. Bottle from mixed pack.

Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. Hazy yellow color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of tart citrus, yeast and malt. Light-bodied with a tart lemony character and flavors of herbal yeast and doughy malt. The finish is mildly sour with a citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pale golden coloured body with a lot of haze and a smallish, but nice white head, only about a centimetre tall. Aroma of funky yeast, some brett and lactose notes and a good deal of dry bread and malt with some metal coming through as well. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and dry flavour at first with a dose of tart lemons, limes, salt and hay coming through that shows a hint of fruit near the end and a dose of grain as well. Aftertaste shows more of the dry characteristics than anything else with some mild sweetness and tart flavours, but hay, yeast, grass and a little basementy and yeastie funk is noticeable throughout. Overall, a very nice and slightly different Berliner Weisse with almost a Gose-like quality showing quite a bit of dryness, a little salt, but the tart and funky notes make this nice and complex. Overall, a nice beer, well worth trying or even seeing if you can find this single bottle from the pack, as it is worth searching for, especially if you like either Goses or Berliner Weisses, as this seems like a bridge between the two styles. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 12-August-2017 for US$25,99/twelve pack sampled at home in Washington on 13-September-2017.
