Russian invasion! And that's not about the Falcon square or a Russian submarine in the port. No, an experiment of our brewer Dennis has seriously gotten out of control. Result: The Russian Imperial Stout! In the brewery known as Black Magic. Dark as the night and a troika of bitter, toasted and sweet. A foaming czar, a bear-like beer.

Sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2015. Opaque dark brown color, average to medium sized beige to light brown head. Smell and taste malts, lightly sweet, some malt bitter, some caramel and brown sugar. Decent body and carbonation. Not bad at all.

Bottle at the Essen Winter Beer Festival, 2015. Poured a murky dark brown with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is liqourice, light dry coffee. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a smooth liqourice, dry, alcoholic bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Zwart bier met stevig chokoladekleurig schuim. Smaak is bitter met rook en sporen van drop, chokolade en heel licht iets van fruit, bessen en framboos.
Gedronken in cafe De Moor, Bergen op Zoom, van het vat.

5/XII/15 - on tap @ Gollem (Antwerpen) - BB: n/a (2015-1682) Thanks to John for the beer!

Clear dark brown to black beer, big fizzy aery beige head, falls down quickly, adhesive, very sticky, lots of lacing in the glass. Aroma: pretty metallic, bit fruity. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very metallic start, sweet, bubble gum, fruity, pretty hoppy, some coffee. Aftertaste: lots of coffee, bitter, some overripe fruits, mocha, bit sugary, caramel.

330 ml. draft @ Gollem. Dark brown going to black with a quickly collapsing briefly big coffee brown head. Nose is mocha ice cream with a weird bitter vegetable streak. Taste is rather thin (esp. considering the style) mocha ice cream with vanilla, dash lactose leading into odd bitter vegetable notes, ashes, licorice, oddly herbal. Rather thin body. Some good elements, interesting but not really what you would expect from the style. The hop profile is a weird one, could have done with more body & sweetness for me but some nice bits and pieces for sure here. Seemed way lower than 10.1 % ABV.
