Draft sample @ TCBW ’16.

Black color, tan head with short duration. Aroma has notes of raisins, roasted and toasted malts, light coffee and chocolate with barrel notes. Flavor is light sweet, not cloying, some molasses, roasted, coffee beans and ripe fruit mainly raisins and plumbs. Light sweetness in the final with slightly cognac hints; dense, smooth and creamy on palate. Awesome beer and for the moment the best Estonian beer I’ve ever tasted.

On tap at TCBW 2016. Pitch black with a creamy, brown head. Rather intense vinous aroma mixed with roasted malt. Dark, sweet chocolate, Cognac candy, dark fruits, mild coffee and hints of oak. Massive sweetness, complex, flavourful and very enjoyable. Smooth and full-bodied with carbonation on the soft side. Excellent stuff!

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 118 - BB 4/11/18, at Kaisla, 20160401) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had vanilla, brandy and burnt malts. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, vanilla, sweetness, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste ashy, woody and bitter. A well done barrel aged stout.

Just black. Not much foam, glass is just filled with dark goodness. Aroma is full of liquor, sweet, spicy, decadent. Cognac and Vana Tallinn. Thick and chocolaty. Taste is aggressively spicy. Sweet and herbal liquorice are defining this. Can probably be aged for a few years longer, no problem at all. Dark fruits, spiked with some herbs, cinnamon, cardamon, anis and so forth. Bitter but not because of hops. Long boozy finish, spikey with spices. Overall, big beer, decadent and just amazing.

330 ml waxed bottle from Firma Bier, bb .14.11.18.
Dark brown body, with a medium, dense, creamy, moderately lacing, coffee-colored head.
Wonderful, rich aroma of barrel, cognac, dried fruits, dark berries, cocoa, milk chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, some liquorice.
Taste follows this, maybe not fully as rich and with additional booze.
Medium to full, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes warm, boozy, astringent, bitter-sweet, medium roasty, quite dry, wooden, with liquorice, cocoa, some coffee, cognac, some fruits.

Very tasty! Quite sweet and boozy, but well balanced, with enough dry and roasty aromas and the cognac barrel notes well integrated. Very complex, releases more and more aromas when it warms up. World class example of a BA Imperial Stout.

Bottle at Gollem. Creamy, irregular, moussy, pale beige head, blackish robe with hazy burgundy reddish edges. Powerful bouquet of chocolate sauce, honey-glazed spareribs, gingerbread, toffee, cognac but bourbon as well, vanilla tannins, dried banana, old furniture, brown sugar... Intense candied sweet onset as liquid Belgian chocolates, but the sweetness is countered by a deep, dried mushroom- and cured meat-like umami presence and some soft underlying sourishness; soft carbo, obviously very thick, creamy, ’fat’ and velvety (oatmeal) mouthfeel, layers of caramelly, nutty, toasted and roasted malts, lightly coffeeish bittering in the end along with a ’sting’ of peppery hops, lots of drying wood, retronasal vanilla and chocolate and a long, warming, brandy-like alcohol effect. Very rich, very thick and very expensive, but worth it.

330 ml. bottle sampled @ Gollem. BBF 04.11.18. A very interesting, viscous stout, lots of barrel very warming, overall very sweet & syrup but also with bitter and herbal flourishes. Intense & it takes some time to get acquired with this one. Black with a solid creamy mocha head. Very thick syrupy nose, herbal umami notes, spices almost, thick & boozy. Taste is herbal, warming, lots of spirit, barrel, very strong with herbal notes, mocha, leading towards sweet milk chocolate in the finish, syrup, bitter herbal finish. Rather boozy & very syrupy.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized medium to dark brown colored head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, cognac, dark malts. Taste malts, sweetness, firm alcohol, liqueur, bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation. Well, too boozy for me to really enjoy it.
