12 oz bottle poured, enjoyed 8 years after bottling to the day. Happy Birthday Avery #27! Definitely not my first time enjoying this, but first time rating it. Age has done great things to this. Still plenty tart with dark cherries. Moderate bourbon background keeping this cocktail sour as interesting as it is. Smooth palate, but bites up front. Dark reddish brown appearance. The cherry and bourbon are well balanced and blend well. Booze is there but less intense than many beers of this strength. Quite the treat.

Deep copper, light brown and coffee coloured body with a beautiful ruby and pink tint when held to the light, all with a very fast-dying tan head that starts at perhaps two or three centimetres tall, but fades quickly to just about nothing on top. Aroma of soured and fragrant cherry, raspberry and strawberry notes with a light scent of yeast and breadiness along with some alcohol, but more of the muddied earthy and grainy notes with some pit fruits and a fragrant and powerful toffee and caramelised sugar bite. Aftertaste is rich and complex with tons of sugars ranging from pure caster sugar notes to all the fructose and fruit-based sugars from the tart berries and finishing with some pitted fruit sweetness and punch from the finale. Overall, a very nice soured and tart beer with a great profile that shows predominately the cherries and raspberries along with some bready and yeast notes, some of the dry oak and foeder notes and ending with a light kick of pure sugars from the caramelised sugar notes and pitted fruits that shows a great complexity and nice range. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Eye Street NW, Foggy Bottom), D.C. on 25-May-2015 for US$14,99! sampled exactly FIVE years later at my house here in Washington on 25-May-2020 (Memorial Day!).

12 oz. bottle. Pours a murky brown, with a very small, off-white head the promptly fizzles away. The nose is toasted oak, vanilla, tart cherries, cloves, peat, and lemons. Sweet up front, with a strong, even, and pleasant sour flavor through the finish. Medium to heavy body, sticky, warming and boozy, and very clingy. A wonderful exhibition of bourbon and sour cherries that is immediately delicious. The flavors open up as it warms, and it gets smoky and more complex. This is how all bourbon barrel aged beers should be done!

Cheers Gene for leaving a 355ml bottle for the Shrewsbury Beer Exchange Group: we shared it in Jan 2016. Sour red fruits rule the nose and taste, I struggled to find any Bourbon flavours but tart cherries, sharp raspberries and smooth strawberry notes seemed to exude out of the brew. Not a big sour beer guy but this was fine in my book.

355ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, Jan 16, courtesy of Gene. Many thanks chap! Pours murky brown. Aroma is light sweet bourbon and vinous oak. Taste is good crisp flanders red with lightly tart cherry, subtle cream and vanilla bourbon with beautiful nuances from the barrel-ageing. A tremendous beer.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours very hazy coppery brown with a transient beige head. Mild sour aroma which carries a hint of cherry. Med body or so. Flavor is oaky, sweet/tart, bourbon, cherry. Finishes less than dry, but it works.

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy dark amber color with thin head. Drinking this one, I think of cake first (the aroma), but then the body is lean, very sour, lemony, with some fruit flavor, and final astringency.
Good sour beer, aggressive.
