A Saison (Say-Sahn) is a Belgian Farmhouse Summer Beer, referring to the simple fact that very small “farmhouse” breweries typically made these beers. Lighter in alcohol, ours is 7.5% (not exactly light but that’s just us!) and golden to orange in color and unfiltered. Ours is spiced with both Apricot puree and Black Pepper. The taste is light, refreshing and nicely fruited to start. Medium mouth-feel. After taking a drink, the black pepper dries the palate and creates a nice tingling sensation on the tongue.

Tasting at Chez Bruce. Hazy gold beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is airy and light, fine carbonation. Light floralness and a good winey tang. Mellow fruits underneath. Airy finish brings touches of yeast and spice. Joins up well.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Kenny. Pours unclear gold with a soft, frothy white head. Delightful aroma aroma with subtle funk, lemon, tangerine. Light to medium sweet flavor with light citrus tang, mild lemon rind, a bit of alcohol warmth, white grape. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with some woody elements, peach, lemon, subtle grass and hay. Very nice.

Bottle thanks to Kenny. Slow gusher. It pours hazy golden with medium white head. The nose is barnyard, earth, light funk, spice, tart apricot, sherbet notes, light vinegar and wood. The taste is crisp, hay, apricot, peach, sherbet, candy, wood, hay, barnyard, earthy, spice, warming alcohol with a dry, earthy finish. Medium+ body and lively carbonation. Was hoping for more wine character, but that’s what you get with 3rd fill... Decent enough.

Many thanks to StefanDS for this great brew!
Fruity-funky in the nose, Hazy orange with a thick white head in the glass. The beer starts fruity, horse-blanket farmhouse-style typical. The mainpart is a bit yeasty-funky, fruity. Hints of wood. The apricot is there in the background, but the pepper is not tastable. Probably somewhere in the funkiness and sour hints in the end. The aftertaste is long, fruity-sourish, yeasty, spicy.
Very interesting brew and very close to a real Belgian Farmhouse-Ale! --> 12/12/11/12

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out brett, moderate apricot, and no pepper notes. Flavour is surprisingly clean, bringing out loads of brett, moderate pepper, a hint of the apricots, and moderate chardonnay barrels. The brett is upfront, followed by the pepper. The apricots are very far back and the wine barrels accentuate everything. Very well-constructed, with a super dry palate. Excellent stuff.

Bottle, peach tasting. Pours hazy golden, medium white head, good lacing. Aroma is light funk, fruity, lemon. Flavor is the same, strong woody astringence, zesty bitterness. A bit odd. Medium body. Fairly hot.

Bottle at Endo’s house, 25/05/13, thanks to the host himself for a rare-ish NE tick! Lightly hazed golden with a thin white head. Nose is grass, apricot, cereals, citrus, grain, light funk. Taste comprises apricot, peppery notes, spice, touch of sugar, grass, farmy. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, crisp in the finish. A decent saison delivering it’s name in it’s taste!
