A Saison (Say-Sahn) is a Belgian Farmhouse Summer Beer, referring to the simple fact that very small “farmhouse” breweries typically made these beers. Lighter in alcohol, ours is 7.5% (not exactly light but that’s just us!) and golden to orange in color and unfiltered. Ours is spiced with both Apricot puree and Black Pepper. The taste is light, refreshing and nicely fruited to start. Medium mouth-feel. After taking a drink, the black pepper dries the palate and creates a nice tingling sensation on the tongue.

Nebraska Abricot au Poivre aged in Chardonnay barrels. 6.8% This beer pours a beautiful honey gold with a thick white head that leaves soapy lacing behind. Great aroma of fruity Chardonnay, white pepper and apricots. A bright joyful aroma. Effervescent with a surprising tart fruity hit, then soft oak and pepper plus funk. A somewhat sweet tartfruit characteras well. It finishes really dry, if you know a white wine drinker who hates beer give them this and you’ll change their mind in no time. Wonderful with dinner, classing up my humble donburi.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a large, long lasting, frothy, white head that laces. Sweet aroma of apricot, pepper, oak and a light funky note. Sweet apricot flavour with oak, yeast, a hint of pepper and a dry, white wine, warming alcohol finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Cloudy deep golden color, fluffy white head. Aroma of peppery stone fruit, decent funk. Taste is black pepper, hay, straw, fruit. Tasty.Earlier Rating: 10/10/2011 Total Score: 4Bottle. Cloudy straw colored, fluffy white head with solid lacing. Aroma of light spice and summer fruit. Apricot really comes out in the flavor, more like dried apricots and white wine. Interesting stuff. Fruit is not overwhelming, and neither is the barrel.

750 bottle hand carried home from the brewery by my buddy Adrien. Hazy orange gold color with a bubbly white head. Aroma is heavy on the white wine, with nice notes of dried apricots. The flavor is extremely well integrated. Mild hay, barnyard, again dried apricots, nice light lingering white wine hints, weak Brett hints. Very nice.

Slight cloudiness from the yeast, light golden yellow 2 finger tight creamy head. The nose is great. Tart, saison very yeasty, grape skins and very wheat forward. smells a little tart. Pretty yeast, almost no tartness but there is brett funk. some sulfur and faint rotten model tastes but the creaminess and apricot forward funkiness is really nice. I don’t get a lot of wine or oak.

Re-rate 7/18: Bottle sample at a tasting at Shapiro brewery. Thanks Ory. Not as good as last time. 7/3/6/3/13=3.2

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Ariel. Hazy yellow-golden with a nice white head. Pleasant funky aroma with apricots, white wine, oak and light spiciness. Funky flavor, sweaty, sweetish-sourish, a bit vinous, with oak, lovely fruitiness (lots of apricot), a light alcohol hint and a dry finish. Medium-bodied. Great stuff. 8/4/8/3/16=3.9

Bottle shared at Dave's Bachelor Party, 9/27/14. Thanks to whoever shared this.
I enjoyed this beer quite a bit. The fruity flavors and the barrel aging worked extremely well together. I found the aroma to be the standout component. Really quite an excellent brew.

Bottle. A- Funk, apricots, peaches, chlorine, white wine. A- Orange color, cloudy body, white head. T- Funky, brett, white wine, subtle woodiness, apricots. P- Medium body, average texture, medium carbonation, funky finish. O- My 500th rating. Had to make it a local Nebraska brew and one of the best beers from Nebraska according to statistics. I was excited to pop this one open and get to drinking. Overall, it left me pleased but not overly excited. The pepper and spice was so subtle it was hardly noticeable. Nothing other than the funk and some apricot flavor stood out. Just didn’t live up to the expectations I had, especially for over $20 a bomber. I’d still like to try the Black Betty though.

Bottle - Funky stone fruit and lots of tropical fruit. Cloudy and particulate orange with a white head. Peppery, grass and stone fruit. Dry finish and effervescent. Really nice.

From a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is rather fruity with some nice apricot character. Light notes of other stone fruit notes as well as some grain character. Pours a hazy, pale, golden orange with a small, thick white head that exhibits nice retention. Moderate lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor has some light grain notes with medium light apricot character. Light bitterness with a drying finish. Hints of other stone fruit and medium light phenolic character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a rather nice beer but the flavor lacks the complexity and slightly citrus character that I prefer in most fruit saisons. A touch on the harsh and astringent side overall.
