OPA was originally brewed in 1998 at O’Hooleys, the site of Jackie O’s original brewpub location. Over the years OPA has changed and evolved just like Jackie O’s Brewery and the greater beer scene. Ohio Pale Ale has a bright nose of grapefruit, geraniums, and pine. Raise a can to the OG southeastern Ohio hoppy beer, OPA!

Dirty light yellow-brown body, thick off-white head. Citrusy nose with light biscuity and grassy notes. Medium-bodied, grassy/floral, with citrus (especially lemon), pine needles, and sugar-dusted biscuits. Finishes bitter. Quaffable.

Can, virtually clear yellow with a big foaming head. Smell is bitter hops, not much floral going on here. Quite strong bitterness here, this is more like an IPA than an APA. I've actually had many IPA that were milder than this stuff. Oh well, everybody wants to make things as bitter as possible, the new ubiquitous beer. Big gray area between APA and IPA today. Yes, the big kick in the face bitter nasty finish, terribly on style for an IPA that is. Oh well, just another tikker. There you have it, what else can be said? Goes quite astringent on the finish. Whew boy.

tap, rated last summer - Pours a hazy copper color. The aroma is of citrus hops and a touch of caramel malt. The flavor has moderate bitterness with a tasty fruity character and good malt balance. It's a very good pale ale.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish gold with 2 fingers of white foam that lingers. Lemon and biscuit malt aromas with some caramel as it warms up. Toasted caramel, lemon, citrus and faint honey on the palate. Orange zest and pith on the finish with lingering toasted caramel. Very midwestern, but with a slightly light body. Solid. --- Beer merged from original tick of OPA (Ohio Pale Ale) on 19 Oct 2018 at 00:09 - Score: 7. Original review text: Lemon aromas with biscuit malt and light caramel notes. Palate has more lemon, orange and caramel notes. Balanced. Honey & pithy bitterness

Canned 7/12, drunk 7/28/18.
Lightly hazy, maize-to-light-copper golden. White head atop is medium-sized and shows moderate to moderately strong retention.
Fruity and with a powerful PNW kick to it, the nose is quite hoppy and robust. Cracker and light biscuit malts stay mostly out-of-the-way, as juicy fruits and even a hint of the tropics sneaks in there. Not resinous nor filled with hard pine and grapefruit, it definitely has some hybrid NE pale ale leanings, though is still solidly a West Coast.
In the mouth it's soft, lightly juicy but decidedly bitter and very well bittering hopped. Grapefruit, pine, lime and lemon all make strong appearances even if there is plentiful juicy yellow fruit to soften things. High attenuation, engaging carbonation and no alcohol or flaw make for a very well-brewed beer, even if it pushes the envelope on bitterness for those who enjoy the NE IPA side of the bitterness spectrum.

Sampled on draft at Vintage Estate this beer poured a bright yellow color with a medium sized foamy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet with lemon and catbox. The flavor was tart with cactus and catbox. Long catbox finish. Light body. Not good.

12 ounce can gifted by Chris. Dated August 3rd 2016, which is gosh darn fresh, awesome job Chris. Now, I know that the name Ohio pale ale doesn’t sound very appetizing, which may explain the low ratings, ut it’s pretty damn decent beer. Pours yellow a small head that kind of last around for a while. Aroma is mild beer with very understareted hoppiness - a little green, a little grass, and even a little fruit. nice mix. Flavor is again pretty mild and lightly hoppy it’s like a light golden ale with a hop character that’s not offending but yet very distinct and fun. Short finish and almost no bitterness to speak up pretty damn quaffable if you ask me. This really is a hoppy golden ale and not a pale ale.

On tap at Jackie O’s. Pours a slightly hazy light orange with a thin head and nice tropical and resiny hops on the nose. Flavor is light and hoppy with a nice little punch of tropical fruit. Refreshing.
