Bottle from Bierboom, Bruges. Shared with Anke.
Pours hazy dark brown with a big, frothy, tan head; some lacing. Intense aroma of licorice, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, candied dark fruits, coffee or banana liqueur, some medicin & band aid. It tastes medium to heavy malty/syrupy sweet and light to medium roasted bitter, some 'sweet spiciness' from licorice. Spicy & caramelly finish with some herbal hops, a bit medicinal and sharp from warming (whisky) alcohol. Medium to full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. The medicinal off-note and evident alcohol didn't kill it, luckily. Not bad for a hobby brew.

Hobby brew from Beerse in the abt style, commercialized through the Proef. Dark purplish ruby colour with dead yeast bits throughout the liquid (but not bothering too much seen the dark robe), under a medium sized, lightly lacing, dense, pale yellowish beige head remaining fairly stable for a beer of this ABV. Rich sweet aroma of caramel, cookies, ruby port, raisins, gingerbread, lots of dried banana, blue plums, dates, accents of earth and dried leaves, liquorice, bayleaf, sweet milk chocolate (quite apparent in warming up), toasted bread, black pepper, pear brandy and nail polish-like solvents rising up after a while. Sweet onset, candi syrup, yet not cloying, banana, strong bubblegum, candied dates, finely tingling carbo, some deep basic sourishness for balance, rounded and somewhat resiny mouthfeel, liquorice flavour pops up in the end along with residual candi syrup sweetness, a touch of toasted bitterness and some peppery hop bitterness; wodka-like alcohol is present all the way through, but somehow manages to remain in place, though I do get a slight alcohol ’burn’ all the way at the back. Could do with a bit more refinement, less solvents, less apparent alcohol and perhaps a thicker malt body, but for a hobby brew this is not bad at all, and got better in warming up.

3/VIII/14 - 33cl bottle from Limburgs Bierfestival (2013) @ the seaside - BB: 15/V/15 (2014-873)
Clear red brown beer, lots of small sediment under a big solid creamy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, caramel, bit of banana, some chlorine, more banana, fudge, a bit off. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: sweet, caramel start, little citric, overripe fruits, some mocha, overripe banana, slightly roasted. Aftertaste: bitter hops, caramel, dried fruits, biscuit, sugary, dark chocolate, mocha, bit metallic. Very decent beer, if a little too sweet to my liking.

Very dark brown colour. Dark fruit in aroma and taste. Some blackcurrant comes through well. Quite a good bitter/sweet balance.
