Draught at Engelbewaarder in Amsterdam. Unclear, dark golden with a small but lasting white head. Not very strong, but quite fruity aroma with some malt. Flavor is refreshing, light malty, quite fruity, some citric sourness, a bit sweet and a light balanced bitterness. Totally OK, but I was expecting a bit more from the hype.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading - as Palm Cask Ale, quoted ABV of 5% Hazy amber with a soapy looking off-white head that laced the glass very nicely; tropical fruit aroma; honey and tropical fruit flavours with pineapple and mango to the fore, nicely balanced and not over-sweet; bready, light caramel finish. Very, very pleasant.

Handpumped at De Zalm, Roeselare. Acidic aroma, slightly moldy, hint of citrus fruit. Cloudy dark orange colour. Big stable, Kräusen-like head. The flavour is quite citric, dry lemon flavour, some woody notes. A little grapefruit bitterness. Quite complex. Thinnish mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Nothing like a regular Palm.

Big offwhite coarse lasting head. Hazy deep orange-brown body, clearly with lots of yeast. Light acidic wooden aroma, very faint. Taste is round, yeasty and fruity, very mild, with caramel and milk notes. Very smooth, with a milky mouthfeel. Dry all the way through. Dryish wooden aftertaste. Very unusual, but highly drinkable. Darught at the Grand Cafe Horta, Antwerp, Belgium 04-10-06. Slightly hazy orangey coloured beer with a fluffy white head. Aroma a bit yeasty and also a little bit of banana detected, little bit nutty in the taste but again detected slight banananess along with yeasty flavour. Very enjoyable beer that I could have had a few of quite comfortably.

Palm ongefilterd (=unfiltered) is the cask-ale version of Palm, AFAIK only available in two selected Palm-outlets: the Brouwershuis in Steenhuffel, next to the brewery, and the Grand Café Horta, Kipdorp in Antwerpen. Orange-foxy colour, totally hazy. Thick white, very regular head. Yeasty nose, very much like green beer, some malts. Bitterish, but with a creamy texture from the yeast. Banana, fruit and even some cloveflavours. Lots of malts underneath. Here is some likeness to British real ale: like a strong draught mild. Exactly right carbonation, not fizzy. Aftertaste gives some sweetness, not cloying. Theoretically this is the same beer as the ubiquitous "Palm(ke)". In reality - worlds apart. In character it stands between a strong cask mild, a Bavarian Hefeweizen and a Belgian speciale. BTW, the big difference with British cask ale, is that this is REALLY unfiltered. No isinglass or suchlike fishy thingies. We're Belgian after all.
