One of the most complex beers we’ve ever attempted. A blend of two barrel-aged imperial saisons – one black, one red – which has in turn then been aged in rum barrels, it is an enormous, intricate beer.
A baseline of warm, smoky raisin and plum, followed by punchy flavour elements coming to the fore – coconut, mint and blackcurrant. There’s a long undercurrent of treacle toffee, before the finish darkens to liquorice, star anise amidst a touch of honey sweetness.
Malts: Cara, Carafa, Crystal, Extra Pale, Flaked Oats, Wheat
Hop: Mount Hood

0.375 l bottle from Pivoteka Zagreb, shared with Marko and Ogi. Dark brown, clear, bubbly, diminishing small head. Caramel, raisins, alcohol, coconut, rubber, licorice. Very aromatic. Nice roasty beginning with aroma of dark fruits. Warm alcoholic notes. Full body, soft texture. Barrel present, especially in the finish. Strong roasty alcoholic finish. Very good balance. Very nice.

Shared with Hrabren and ogivlado. Daaark brown amber body with a tiny beige head. Creamy aroma, heavy raisins, vanila, honey. definitely a ton of coconut, choco base. Bit like Bounty. Alcohol somewhat restrained but there. Love the complexity in the aroma! Taste... barrel, mild vanilla, coconut, a touch of saltiness, ending a bit watery - no alcohol in the taste really. If the aroma was a chocolate covered coconut bar, the taste is completely different, the flavors coming along the lines of aged wine, but without the sweetness, dryish a bit. And oh yeah, it’s definitely warming now, the alcohol does come on strong in the finish, but well incorporated. But it’s not cloying, and that’s an enormous success. This is a very pleasant drink all in all.

Smell of raisins, red wine, oak, rum. Black colour, zero head. Aroma of red wine, cognac, oak, vanilla, mint. Very complex aroma. Half bittet, half sweet. Heavy body, lively carbon.

Bottle at Craigs. Pours dark brown with no head. Aromas of liquorice, mint, toffee. Taste is sweet, meaty. Liquorice finish. Saison my ass.

Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen (thanks you two!), consumed Isobels, Eardisley, Herefordshire, Friday 1st January ’New Years Day’ 2016 I have to say I was desperately disappointed by this, I know that Helen and Geraint would have spent about £10 on this, so big thanks you guys, just sorry I didn’t really enjoy this. It poured almost black with a few ruby glints. Brown sugar, vanilla and a little spicy rum, in fact maybe that is part of the reason I don’t like this as I am not a fan of rum cask aged beers generally.My main criticism is that it is far too boozy in the mouth, the alcohol was way to harsh. This is just a messy beer that is all over the place, I really couldn’t drink anymore and went onto red wine. A5 A3 T4 P2 Ov10 2.4/b>

Brewdog Clapham. Keg. Clear dark red - amber beer, small pale tan head. Nose of brandy and rum and candy fruits! Palate is surprisingly light and semi dry. Taste follows the nose to a degree. Adds mild dry wood to the tangy rum and brandy. Accompanying dark fruits. Mild candy fruits. A little thin cream. Light bitterness and a mild savoury note. Semi dry finish. Complicated and tasty.

@NOT a saison. Split with James , 30/12/15. Light black with reddish hues topped with a decent beige covering. Nose is jammy red berry, chocolate lacing, airy malt, Chocolate orange, sherry vibes. Taste comprises chocolate malt, light booze tunes, sweet malt, dates, dark fruit rinds, toasted brown sugar, sweet tunes, light menthol, raspberry jam. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light warming alcohol. Decent stuff ... saison @eh?? American strong for me.

Draught Small cream head over virtually black beer. Vanilla, Bourbon & rum, green leaves. Quite sweet, vanilla explosion, alcoholic, coconut. Medium to well-bodied, light for such a beer, bit undercarbonated. Alcoholheat. Too lopsided... and.. Saison??? PUH-LEASE!!

Bottle from BrewDog Liverpool. Almost black colour with no head. Aroma fruity with sweet coconut to a more liquorice finish. A lot of depth of flavour, the finish is warming

Tap at Brewdog Brussels. Poured a clear dark brown with a round bubbly off white head. The aroma is rich molasses, alcohol. The flavour is moderate bitter sweet with a big malt molasses, red berry fruit alcohol palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
