The Vic Secret hop, named after a beautiful state in Australia, has long been on Cam’s brewing wish list. Only released in 2013, this new hop variety has quickly become renowned in the craft brewing world for its clean, resinous, tropical fruit notes, rivaling one of our other favourite Aussie hops, Galaxy.
Malt: Irish pale malt, Carafa III

Bottle at the Cotteridge Convention thanks to Steve. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, cola cubes, caramel, citrus peel, candy, bubblegum, treacle and parma violets, The taste is bitter roast, earthy, burnt toast, wood, ash, citrus peel and charcoal with a very dry finish. Medium body and big foamy carbonation. A bit ashy. Very nice aroma to it. Decent CDA.

24th Jan 2015: shared bottle at the Cotteridge Wine meet. Black pour with a tanned head. The nose held some tropical fruitiness, the taste still fruity but more bitter in nature, especially in the finish. Traces of bitter dark chocolate in the flavour also: the beer grew on me after a shaky start.

330mL bottle. BIPA are quickly becoming a crowded room, some tough competition out there. I like the use of the single hop in IPA’s or PA’s to highlight the aroma, bittering, and flavour profile of a strain, but with a BIPA it might be a little underpowered to combat the solid malt arsenal. The vic secret variety isn’t all that well known, so nice to get an idea of the tropical fruit aroma and flavour. Funny enough, its the roasted "porter" side of this one that fails, maybe it should have been an IPA rather than a BIPA in the end. Not enough dark malt balance here. Still a nice beer though
